Neil was scorching on this tour, I think playing with the young guys really fired him up. I've seen him 5 times, once solo, twice with the Horse, once with CSNY and on this tour with Promise of The Real. They were all amazing shows, but this one was the best, he played for about two and a half hours under a full moon in July and it rocked from start to finish. Long live Uncle Neil!

Not to people who know anything of his music beyond "Heart of Gold" or "Four Strong Winds". Very legitimate argument to be made for "On The Beach" being his crowning achievement as an album, way back when his soul was deeply implicated in the creative process.

FUCKEN SO COOL.... 59 year old lifetime Neil fan,,,,,,,,,,,,, started playing guitar after listening to neil for first time in 1969.......ive been playing ever since.......... I got my old Gibson les Paul out right now with the old fender tweed over cooking the tubes,, the knobs only go up to 10,,,, but I found some vice grips and cranked them up to about 13 playing revolution blues,,,,,,, had to let my Golden Retriever out,,,, He gets scared when Dad is Rocken out,,,,,,,, thanks Neil for a lifetime of playing the guitar...... Thank you all for the beautiful comments!! Truly humbled! All I did was to be at the right place at the right time. Honestly, was debating all morning whether I should go. I did not have any buddies to accompany me. I bit the bullet and never looked back. Truly a great experience - only in Austin, Texas. The Whitewater Amphitheater is an amazing venue located on the Guadalupe River. Pot smoke flowing everywhere. ...I grew up in Zambia and fell in love with Neil after my brother brought home "4-Way Street" from the US in 1974 where he was studying at SIU - Carbondale. I became a revolutionary then. I lived in the Bay Area and would always be on the lookout for Neil in Half Moon Bay. :-) ...What an amazing Being and an influence on me. _/I\_

Man, I'm so glad this video exists and is still here. I keep coming back to it again and again. I believe I MAY (OK, I think I am) be the guy going "WOOOOO" at :38. Was at this gig, near this spot in the crowd, had seen Neil probably 20 times and "Revolution Blues" was my absolute #1 probably-will-never-see-live-but-would-kill-to song, and then he goes and busts it out in the encore with a full band for the first time in 40+ years. I'm normally not a "WOOOOO" guy, but it was involuntary. I make no apologies.

LMAO. Typical Neil-can’t decide if he’s a left-wing hippie or a right-wing nut. You do realize that he originally wrote this song about a bunch of acid-fueled violent hippies, NOT as a warning about the government.

@lenr7137
@lenr7137 5 жыл бұрын
Rudo lf Yes, I’m aware it’s about Manson. Like I said, an acid-fueled hippie and his acid-fueled “Family.” As originally written this has nothing to do with being an “anti-government” song. Anti-social, maybe. The rhetorical bilge water that Manson spouted focused on the generation gap. Now “Powderfinger,” that’s another story.

I just realized that this is truly a rare recording. The only one of a live version in recent vintage. Willie NELSON showed up as a surprise and again - what a sight to see him play with his son, Lukas. ...Again, truly humbled. This was the last song he played at this venue at the Whitewater Amphitheater. Thank you Neil!! Love You!!

He was doing crazy one-off encores on this tour with these guys. I was totally psyched for F#ckin' Up in Portland (hadn't seen it since Weld), but the night before he'd done Here We Are In the Years and played Time Fades Away the night after. He did a Vampire Blues, too. This is phenomenal, thanks for capturing and for sharing.

Had on the beach as a senior in high school back in 76 when we did a lot of field partying. Must of had it on the car stereo or something when a schoolmate was pointing out the provocative lyrics. Back then I was more tuned into the .music but after that I did start to ponder them a bit more. So many years since I have heard this. And what a cool version.

One of my favourites too. Those lyrics are chilling. I read that, in the 70s, David Crosby absolutely refused to play this with Neil, arguing that it was too dark and `tempting fate`. Illustrative of how much deeper an artist Neil was relative to his CSN buddies.

Fuuuuuck. Neil Young is someone you can set your watch by but even better you can see him smash that timepiece into smithereens and watch as he reassembles it into a hundred thousand different things that make you forget all about time. I was looking for a live version of this song but had no idea I'd find such a murderous rendition from so recent. So much for burning out.

It's a great band that rocks like a storm but also manages to NOT bury the singer with extraneous noodling, fills, etc. (You can discern every single word.) IMO, this was already the best song of OTB -- now, it's even deeper.

Favorite Neil album all time. No question dudettes and dudes. I’m a barrel of laughs w my carbine on and I got the revolution blues. Sing it bro. When the album came out in ‘74 everyone wanted another Harvest. Neil did what he wanted. Always. Album tanked but it’s his best in my stupid opinion.

This, among all the Neil Young songs i know (those of his 8 first main albums (7 first studio albums + Time Fade Away) + Sleep with Angels & Harvest Moon), is the undisputed best one IMO. I have the physical cds of Sleep with Angels & Harvest Moon since forever, and in them the only Neil Young songs i knew, until recently, where in these last months I've been going, in ascending order, through a Neil Young album list based on the list under "Albums" of the Neil Young discography in Spotify. (Where I've been "stuck" in the first 8 albums since I started more than half a year ago, constantly editing a google sheets where I'm rating each album and each song of each album, and I think after today I'm finally ready to move on to the next ones- gonna start with 2020's Homegrown though (since the songs were written in 1975), before going to 1976 Long May You Run) About the album, to me On the Beach is tied with Zuma as the best of the 8 (or 10 if you include Harvest Moon and Sleep with Angels), so at this moment I'm hearing these two albums one after the other to distinguish which is best (if I can).

When I first heard this on his album On the Beach I thought it could be about Charles Manson and never gave it much thought after that, figured that thought was bullshit and forgot about it. This song is about his brief friendship with Manson and how he felt about it after hearing about the murders. Neil actually liked Mansons music which is very folksy. He tried to help him get into the music industry. However when Terry Melcher Doris Days son turned him down. Things spiraled out of control.
