Hi guys! So you are starting the Baja Bash now (fighting your way up the coast against the waves and wind). Heading south is great with following seas and favorable winds. Heading back north is pure drudgery and is rough on both the boat and the crew. Just take your time and you will be fine if not a tad uncomfortable at times (well protected anchorages are somewhat rare on this coast). By the way, that is why a lot of cruisers opt to head straight to Hawaii from Mexico then head up to northern Alaska and come down the west coast of North America to get back to where they started. I hope to see you in the San Francisco Bay some time soon! Take care and all the best from California!🧡

Definitely need to look into some fishing tactics. Hoping for a fish while fishing blind rarely works. I just bought an island trader 38 to go out and fish. I'm using it to deep drop swordfish and tuna out in 2000ft of water. For trolling I'm gonna use a spreader rig with squid baits or flying fish. Learning the chicken rig, deep drop and a few top water tactics are gonna really increase your rate of capture. A fish finder is gonna tell you where to use them. Find bait balls with tuna busting and sail right into the ball without your entire running stop and the ball will cling to your boat for cover from the tuna and birds. You'll have fish coming in to feed all day

You should probably use crimps for your wire leader/trace when fishing rather than knots. This is what we use in the UK when fishing for pike and other predator fish. It makes a nice neat loop which you can attached to your lure and also your main line.

Looking at your deck it looks like it needs a dose of soup, (a mixture of Linseed and Teak oil, a cheap varnish, Stockholm tar with an addition of Klean strip drier - Japan). This should rejuvenate the timbers. Oh if you don't use the Japan drier, it will take about 3 hrs to dry.
