Outboard bracket is awesome. Nice job. Being a person always thinking of safety. The bolts you used to mount bracket to debit support should be turned around to where the nuts are on the inside to help insure you don't scrape your arm on It if reaching around it or landing fish etc. Or at least cover end of bolt with rubber caps. It looks awesome and very functional.

My very dear Teulu friends, Have been following your exploits for a long time and have thoroughly enjoyed your significant contribution to those of us not able to participate. And I fully understand your latest modifications, correctly perceived as of great comfort & convenience during, in particular, long open ocean passages. But I am concerned tp preserve your welfare. You are both very intelligent, well educated people; but it's evident you have not yet experienced the real wrath of the oceans. When you do so ( and I hope you don't, but you surely will) your current modifications that comfort you 99% of the time may well prove your worst enemy. In a full-on ocean storm, you do not want to have top-hamper, that is both mass and windage at height above the (normal) waterline. It's not just a stability issue, but one of dictating control of the vessel's heading and handling. Your 40' boat enjoys great accomodation as standard, because it extends well above the waterline. So it inherently has much windage. Your mods have added very much more. Two splendid people, please take care! You will surely observe weather reports - but in a max 6 knot boat you simply cannot weather route effectively across an ocean if it turns really nasty.

Thank you for your thoughtful insights! Safety is always a top priority for us, and we appreciate your concern. We do get that this will add some windage to the boat. However, I think that compared to overall windage of the boat it will be fairly negligible. Numerous golden globe boats have hard dodgers to protect from the elements and we both think that the benefits of it far outweigh the negatives. As far as weight goes, Teulu is 13,000Kg dry (probably 14,000Kg+ with fuel, water, chain, ect) a 35Kg dodger will also have a very negligible over all difference to stability. After 3 years of improving and working on Teulu (with input from multiple round the world sailors) we are more confident than ever with Teulu and what she can handle 😊 Thank you again for your concern and thoughts.

You might want to get one of those fuel filter bucket things for filling diesel. It will slow down filling rates but as you get more remote areas, you might need to filter the fuel you put in. Could save your inline filters a bit

I recommend the Joshua Slocum Boat Security System. Sprinkle thumb tacks on deck and they will (a) provide you warning as soon as someone comes aboard in the dark and (b) make them leave immediately. A modern alternative would be motion activated security cameras with flood lights.

Make sure you put a plastic shim between the steel and the aluminium, otherwise it will corrode quickly. The material from a soda bottle will work.

I don't see any windows yet... Anyway, I refit all 28 windows of my place with tempered bronze-colored pyrolytic reflective glass. The clarity, cool reflective properties, and look is outstanding. I'd suggest 1/2-inch panes of it attached to the outside of your dodger - or at least the side panes. With forward panes mounted in clear e-glass film on the outside to keep night vision clear and bright as possible. I believe Lloyd's requires 1/2-inch side and 5/8-inch forward-facing tempered cabin glass for commercial ships; 1/2 inch would easily serve your needs well.

Give it a year or so and you will go from hard dodger all the way back to hard bimini and ten have the space for mega solar as well. I recommend Aluminum for that since fiberglass will be quite heavy.

Don't know if you are still in the same location. You might want to have the same fabricator use more of your stainless to make a small drop down/flip up step on the bow side of the new motor mount half way between the deck and the top of the mount to make climbing up to service/wash/access your solar panels even easier. Just sayin!!
