Great video. I wish we had videos like this many years ago. As an oboe player back in the late 1970's and my daughter playing oboe in the late 1990's & early 2000's I had a rough time using the book & VCR tape that was available in those days to help me make reeds. I had all the tools I needed, great blanks, shaped cane, cord, beeswax, & everything I needed. But I never could understand how the "instructor" got from "the blank", gradually scraping it into the perfect "American Scrape" reed that was shown in the book & VCR tape. Love your reed . . . Very good "crow" and shaping of the reed including uniform tip & symmetrical heart. Outstanding video. 🎉

Fascinating to see the art and amount of work involved in scraping an oboe reed. Another eye opening lesson.

Thank you Grant! It's a really all-encompassing lesson, and might be overwhelming for new reed-makers, but I will be uploading more in depth mini-lessons in the coming months.

Excellent presentation of the scraping process for an American reed. Very detailed with clear visual follow-through. My problem is that I just prefer the European (German) sound to the American, but to each her own.
