❤️ this series!! Highly recommended the hanna checkers too, this noobs still testing 3+ times a week (though what I'm testing varies) 👍

Is there any reason you would recommend the Hanna Phosphate checker (HI713) over the Hanna Phosphate ULR checker (HI774)? Looks like the range on the 713 is 0-2.5ppm and the 774 is 0-0.9ppm. I assumed the higher accuracy within the lower range would be more beneficial since ideally the phosphate should never get to 1ppm or higher.
@BulkReefSupply2 жыл бұрын
That's correct. The only time that the standard phosphate checker (HI713) would be recommended is if you needed to test above 0.9 ppm. Like you've already mentioned, our reef tanks shouldn't get that high, so the Phosphate ULR checker (HI774) is much preferred for the increased accuracy in that lower range.

Ever thought of connecting all your tanks to 1 sump so you can use an automatic water tester? (and 1 filter roller / 1 skimmer etc.)

Another great video Matthew! We always here about high nitrate low phosphates...what about the opposite? What would be the cause of low nitrate with high phosphate? Cause and effect?

@mikewoolverton21262 жыл бұрын
@@truereefkeeping6022 I just purchased the Tropic Marin Elimi-Phos Rapid... been dosing 1ml to 30gal system for 3 days and have seen a steady decline in phosphate of about .04 daily. Must clean filters more as they are now catching the phosphate. Might want to give it a try, seems to be working for me. I was at .23 3 days ago, at .16 yesterday.

@@mikewoolverton2126 I’ll have to give that a shot, I bought the GVH PO4x4 GFO RESIN and it has been a huge waste of money so far, it’s way overhyped

Hi, wondering why recommending Nitrate HR over the LR?
@BulkReefSupply2 жыл бұрын
The low range checker has a range of 0-5 ppm, while the HR checker has a range of 0-75 ppm. While it's not quite as precise as the LR version, the wider range (and simpler testing procedure) makes it a better tool for a vast majority of reefers.

If testing twice a week, would you recommend testing just before a water change, and then test 24 hours after the water change?
@BulkReefSupply2 жыл бұрын
More information certainly isn't going to hurt. That said, as long as you're consistent, you'll be just fine (i.e. always test before, or always test after).

Any thoughts on cause of undetectable nitrates and phosphates with a ton of nuisance algae? Is the algae consuming those nitrates and phosphates faster than I can test? Suggestions for fixing this issue?
@BulkReefSupply2 жыл бұрын
You hit the nail on the head. The algae is likely consuming all of your tank's nitrates and phosphates. There are a few things that you can do. Manual removal and adding herbivores to the tank are usually the top 2 picks. It's a lot of work to turn a tank around once algae starts to take hold, so be diligent and don't give up!

Was just looking around on the brs site and noticed that the Matthew's beginner test bundle includes the low range Hanna checker. Listen to this video and don't get it. Brs should change that because your going to buy it then hate it then have to buy the high range anyway.

Thanks for the heads up! We'll get that changed.

that alk is all over the place in the reef. how so? i've been noticing a trend all these videos even from other creators show drastic alk swings in video.

I don't get it. He says don't get the low range nitrate tester, and then has a link to his BRS bundle which contains the low range nitrate tester? Somebody has screwed up.

Good video... Great video. But, if an individual wants to learn this more in depth, don't read research papers. Start with text books. :)
