Beautiful! Your version is as warm as a cup of tea and a big slice of banana bread with a friend. Thanks for having the ensemble spirit and letting the melody take centre stage!

I find that French Canadian fiddle tunes are more similar to Irish folk tunes. But Bill Monroe did get some of his ideas from Irish music.

@@MsNickie1001 The fiddles were first brought here by Irishmen and many French Canadians have Irish ancestors... 🍀⚜🌹❄🦉

@@MsNickie1001 bill monroe was influenced by scottish fiddle reel music which is indigenous to scotland. he even wrote a tune called ..scotland....woody guthrie , bob dylan, dolly parton also inspired by scottish music....there are many fiddle tune reels/sangs also of scottish origins in ireland.

Edmund Pariseau-Reel de Roberval and Reel de Commonwealth(not "Hommage a Parizeau...")-any other tunes by him?

Hi Joe, There's a bit about Edmond Pariso (or Pariseau) in the book "Danse ce soir", which is a great overview of Quebecois music. It says he recorded 28 melodies, some which were his own compositions, in the 1950s. Hommage à Edmond Pariso was an arranged version by Marcel Messervier of Pariso's own composition Reel du Commonwealth. The book doesn't list the titles of other tunes by Pariso, but there are some! Pariso stopped playing in the late 50s after a mining accident caused him to lose the tip of his finger. He took up the fiddle again 17 years later, after seeing another fiddler play with 2 missing fingers!

@@quasitradmusicmelbourne454 Thanks-I have the book. The Homage notes are though Bottine Souriante. I looked through my stuff and found "100 Ans de musique traditionelle quebecoise" set of 4 CD's. Just listened to Pariseau himself playing Commonealth, Roberval, and a third tune, Breakdown de Quebec. You would find his playing of Commonwealth a different experience. Booklet refers to his successful first "disque" and recording his group "Paper Makers du Saguenay". Highly suggest buying the "110 Ans.." set. I will ask QC friends about the Parizeau album. If I find anything I will get back here. I am from E. Hartford, CT-family born in Quebec. Nice to see you all enjoying Roberval. Notes are on net. Version on The Session need a dotted quarter on last measure of B1. P. ends the tune by playing the two bouncy phrases and a strong repeat of the last note played.
