Revenge of the Zombies is a 1943 horror film directed by Steve Sekely, starring John Carradine and Gale Storm. Dr. Max Heinrich von Altermann (John Carradine), is a mad scientist working to create a race of living dead warriors for the Third Reich.
The film was a follow-up to the horror-comedy King of the Zombies (1941) with Mantan Moreland reprising his role as Jeff and Madame Sul-Te-Wan returning as a different character. - Wikipedia
-----
Scott Warrington (Mauritz Hugo) returns to his childhood home in Louisiana after learning that his deceased sister, Lila (Veda Ann Borg), may have been poisoned. He brings a detective (Robert Lowery) with him, and they switch identities to protect Scott. At first, they find only Lila's sad husband, Dr. von Altermann (John Carradine). Secretly, however, von Altermann is a Nazi who has been perfecting a way to turn the dead, including Lila, into an army of zombies who will serve Hitler. - Rotten Tomatoes

In these "politically correct" times, this film is considered unacceptable, but Mantan Moreland needs to be recognized as one of the comic geniuses of film. Yes, he played "genre" characters, but then, all actors do; so get your knickers in a twist, or appreciate the talents of the man.

Mantan died in 1973 after working since the early 40's in movies and in stage comedy before that. He came from the deep south in Monroe, Louisiana, as did I. I remember quite well the racial attitudes in the 50's and how they changed in the late 60's. Mantan always had to play the servant and had to refer to whites as Mr Soandso and Miss Soandso. That's just how it was in America, not just the South. He would have never been successful going beyond those bounds....but it made for some high hilarity in the movies. He perfected his role and was one of the best. I don't hear Blacks these days comment much, but in the "art theaters" that showed historic type movies, including movies like Mantan played in, and the early serials like Amos and Andy, Blacks would line up around the block to see them. Why? Because Black characters played dummy roles? No.....Because plenty of white actors played bug eyed, comic personas. They lined up because people like Mantan were talented and really FUNNY. It wasn't the humorless, woke "comedy" of today that's really just a big lecture on what a racist you are.

Very entertaining. Yes, the comedic actor, who is black ,makes the show. I am black too, and yes we disavowed actors like him back in the 1970's, we saw the parts we were offered as demeaning. Now I reflect back the last 75 years and I have either softened or time has changed my perspective. He made the show! In fact, exceptionally good. History is history.

Why? What was he supposed to do in his profession? Did you also disavow Black musicians, singers, and dancers in the movies back then too? There were some like Spencer Williams who took another route. They produced so-called "race films" for Black audiences. Spencer was very good.

A good line at dinner was "Lila, it's pretty soon to replace her, isn't it?". But after that Dr. Altermann says that he bought his excellent port in Spain. Odd, port is from Porto in Portugal. From Spain comes sherry(xéres). Carradine should have corrected the ignorant writers. In the end, this is a better zombie movie than most with a twist at the end.

Hello dear reader of comments,… I went in search of KZbin standard modern ish treatments of zombie iconography, and after a very tough bout of other KZbin search it offered me this movie. So I’m not really a horror genre devotee ( that’s the real Laurence Mardon character,..) but I feel like a victim of a zombie like form of contractual exploitation, where a fake premise gets continuously propagated at the expense of my interest in the contract for the housing being finally secured from an owners own use eviction scheme. So I hope you like the movie!!😂❤🎉

The writing and directing is pretty awful. Zombies can’t talk, because they’re not breathing. Their stiffness or “rigor mortis” seems to disappear, when they roughing up someone. Mammy Beulah, played by Madame Sul-Te-Wan, has more lines than Mantan Moreland, in this sequel to “King of the Zombies.” Her character’s name was Mammy Beulah in “King of the Zombies, as well, but there’s no reference to her former “master,” on this strange “island.”

Perfectly normal people, after working for long years in factories, turn into zombies!!! It is the horribly boring nature of the work that does this! I almost became a zombie myself, but I quit working before it could happen to me! Most assembly line factory workers have become zombies!😮☹️😮😦😧😯😵

@@allenwatkins4972 You can (re)sell port even in New Guinea, if you want. Nothing's stopping you. But if you're making it sound like it is an *original* product of that region, than it's wrong. It's just like saying "i got these great cuban cigars... from Samoa". Port wine is produced in Oporto, and in fact some of their best reserves are sold (by the producers) *only* there. Of course, anyone can buy it and resell it anywhere else, but there'll be no garantees that it's the original thing. Hey, i know, i live in Portugal and have talked to people involved in it.
