I just want to thank you for these videos. I’m an ESO refugee. Prior to starting FFXIV, I had over 400 hours logged in ESO. I played that game for about 4 months straight before I got bored by the game and sick of the community just being full of assholes. I play my games exclusively on steam deck due to physical disabilities preventing me from being able to sit at a PC or tv console for long periods of time. After months of trial and error, I finally got FFXIV to work back in late April/early May of this year (2023). When I say I have never played a game with such an intensely beautiful, haunting story with the best characters I’ve ever met in fiction, (I do not hate one scion. Not one.) when I say I have never played a game with the literal best community of humans I had ever met? I mean it. I now have almost 900 hours logged… and it’s barely been 3 months. I play literally every second I can. I firmly believe ESO, WoW, RuneScape, any and all MMO’s pale in comparison to FFXIV. I also fully believe the devs are some of the best people in the industry right now. That’s a hill I will die on, a statement I will forever say with my entire chest. This game… has become my comfort game. I live a very lonely life… having a chronic illness often causes people to lose their independence, relationships with family and friends, etc. so I spend most of my days home alone, glued to my steam deck. When I say I finished the entire story in less than 6 weeks? I truly did. Now I’m currently playing it through a second time after learning what to do and not to do on my first character. While I’ll always have a special place in my heart for my first character, my second has truly become my “heart WoL” (think heart dog or heart cat, but WoL lol). I’ll forever love this game, the people who make it and the people who play it. I just wish I could thank YoshiP for saving FFXIV back when it first came out. But since I can’t… I’ll just thank people like you who take the time out of your lives to help sprouts like me. 🥰

I'm honestly blown away by this game's professions/jobs. I always thought of gathering, fishing and crafting in MMOs as a chore to get gear and gold (looking at you WoW). Seeing how FFXIV makes me actually like the process and not really the rewards, it's a breath of fresh air. Every time i come back to this game, i am once again blown away by the job system, how every class, including non combat ones, essentially turns it into a different game when you switch between them, with as many abilities and depth as your typical 6 or so classes offered in most other MMOs.

Pro Tip: if you are sitting on the stool and you snag a !!! fish, you will immediately stand up if the catch is successful if you remain sitting it got away. Its just a faster visual indication rather than sitting through the whole reeling in animation and then finding out if you got it or not.

I have always loved fishing in video games. My earliest experience was in Zelda Twilight Princess, didn't know about the fishing area when I was younger but still hella enjoyed fishing in the regular overworld areas. Second was minecraft, when I learned you can get enchanted books and items I would fish for hoursss. Also, having so much fish meant I rarely ran out of food lol. The third is a game called Rune Factory Frontier where I literally spent an entire in-game year solely fishing, maybe even two years. I am extremely excited to learn of the fishing class in FFXIV! Time to waste away my summer break 😂😂😂

Hey. Thanks you the video. I was wondering how do you know what bait/lure you need for a certain fish? The guide and log have question marks on undiscovered fish unlike crafting logs that show you the ingredients

Heyo! Thank you for the support! Figuring out the baits/lure can be a little trial and error. However if you looking a regions where you can fish within the fishing log and it should show level ranges in the bottom left. If so you'll want to try to pick up bait within those level ranges and see what bites! Sorry I could not offer a more straight forward answer on that!

Heya! We actually do have some social fishing gatherings! The fishing boats definitely bring people together; but even outside of that you can find other fishers all around the open world! It's not uncommon for people to just group up in a fishing pile!

Howdy! A lot of your GP will end up coming from gathering accessories. However I believe the vendors only go up to level 50 on those. :< I would perhaps check the market board to see if any crafted accessories are up there for a reasonable price. Regretfully accessories are a little scarce beyond 50, outside of those made by other players.

Question about fishing in general: When a fish bites, how long do you have until it gets away? Mainly asking this because right now i have the mother of all colds and trying to tell whether it's a one exclamaition point or two for HQ fish as i am right now is going to be fucking impossible unless either the time is unlimited between bite and catch or it's about as long as a bus takes to arrive.

If you're spearheading it and are relatively caught up on your MSQ (So you can reach new zones/The Firmament In Foundation) You can level it all up in a week or two. Taking it at a slower pace usually a few weeks to a month depending on your playstyle. As for gil earned, that can vary. However Culinarians do need certain fish while leveling up as well as at endgame, so if you check your market board you'll be able to find which fish are selling at the best prices currently and track them down! It's sad that the developers gutted Archeage after only a few months. It's the only game that had a fishing system more interesting than FF14. The game was PvP based heavily on economy and building ships to sail for profit and piracy. So, you'd have to sail out with some friends, locate fish, and secure them while potentially fighting a PvP battle. What was really immersive about it was that large fish like Tuna would actually appear in the world as an object. You can carry only one such object on your back, or stow it in limited capacity containers. So, after a 2 hour fishing trip, pirates could actually kill you and steal the cargo. It was phenominal.

@@WelbyCoffeeSpill Heyo! As it stands now the only resource system we have is the GP or Gathering Points system, which more or less just works like slow-regen mana. I'm not sure how that compares to the former Labor/Energy systems though

@@AlienneAshford the labor points in Archeage were very different from FF14. The labor point system was similar to the mobile game mechanics where you get 3 actions per hour unless you pay cash. I found that in archeage the daily ration was sufficient not to feel I had to pay cash, so I didn't mind, but I can appreciate how others would dislike it either in implementation or in principle.

Yeah for FFXIV The Gather points will just slowly regenerate over the course of a few minutes and then you're good to go again. We also have some potions called Cordials which can return your gathering points to you. And they're fairly easy to get a hold of.

Hey there! If you're just starting off you can actually go to one of the three main capital cities and if you find the NPC named fieldcraft supplier and field craft armor you can actually vendor buy some starting gear for the various level brackets up to level 50! This will include your accessories your armor and a fishing rod!

Oh! I believe there should still be fisherman leve quest that you can pick up. They will give you set amounts of predetermined fish that you can go hunt. Outside of the the Shadowbringers and Endwalker fishing content does have fishing work orders you can pick up, although they are for a somewhat limited questline.

Heya! Once you catch the fish you have the option to vendors sell them, sell them on the market board 4 a lot of them can be used in culinarian crafting recipes and I want to say some alchemy crafting recipes!

Why does mine say " unable to change classes. Insufficient armory chest space". What does that mean?

Ah! So your armory chest is like a separate inventory where all of your armor and weapons/tools are kept, so once that get's full it prevents you from changing gear. Within your menus there should be an option that will allow you to open this up and take look inside of it!
