@@googlepigs7027 Hey there! Thanks, I know the name is crazy, lol. The pianist is Beryl Booker. She played with various jazz/swing musicians throughout her career and accompanied Dinah for a short amount of time, too.

As apparent as her vocal decline is on recordings between 1955-1958, it's even more apparent hear where even the miking isn't helping. Problems sustaining, loss of resonance that drastically effects volume, etc. Considering what an exhibitionistic blues shouter she was, this is quite a difference. On the plus side, the sardonic delivery, the crisp diction and the loose, confident ad libs. She was really one of a kind.
@harpereion8702 Жыл бұрын
Granted she didn't have the same voice in her later years that she had in the late 40's early 50's, but to me she sounds fine here. She doesn't seem to have any trouble hitting the higher notes that she wants to hit. I don't consider it a decline, though I guess some people do. I just think her voice changed. To me her recordings of such songs as "Fly me to the Moon" Sunday That Summer" and Friendly Persuasion" are beautiful, and I don't care to hear those songs by anybody else. I think the voice she started out with was closer to a classically trained voice, on ballads, not shouting the blues. I'm not much of a blues fan. Ray Charles voice was always the same. Some people might prefer his recording of "You don't know me" to Jerry Vale's recording, who actually recorded the song first. In this case, Jerry Vale clearly had the better voice.

@@harpereion8702 Her voice didn't just change. She went into an acelerated decline as a result of her drug usage. It also shows in how rapidly she aged. When she died at 39 in 1963 she looked 60.

@@GarthAstrology Nothing you say is going to change my opinion and nothing I say is going to change your opinion. Watching her sing "Make Someone Happy" in the Dinah Washington documentary, which she sang not too long before her death, I think she looked very nice. I think she looked like the young 39-year-old lady that she was, and I love her rendition of the song. I will continue to enjoy her music. I have nothing unkind to say about her. You have a very nice day.

I love how people such as yourself can just comment on someone else’s business without having the slightest idea of what they are talking about. I’m not going to justify or even explain to you what we do or how the only “some stupidity” is your comment that “no TV channels buy material from us” If you did just the slightest bit of research you would see our company name in the credits on most of the music documentaries out there. We’ve been doing this for 25 years and not only have we directed and produced many music docs but even received a Grammy nomination for one of them. But yes please enlighten me about my business because clearly you’re full of wisdom & knowledge and I could learn so much from you.
