I used to fish a spot south of Kununurra like that. The pool was about a km away from the river. Even in the wet season it didn’t connect. But 1 year in 10 there would be a flood event and the Barra would travel and get stuck. So much fun. There were also big crocs in there.

Great video👍 Maybe get yourselves a long gaff, slide it in the gills to land the fish. No damage to the fish and you don’t become croc bait🤷‍♂️ + easy to carry. Love the channel.
