This is way better than bubble pump that keeps going out.

Completely agree!!

I crank the starter about 3 seconds before switching the pump on, that way the oil starts flowing, and no dry starts. All my older mechanic friends say motors last a few extra years if you do that

It is always better to have a mechanicsl fuel pump for safety.mechanical pump has features to prevent fire in case of a leak. Electric pump will keep going and fueling in case of a hose leak.

What is the part number for that fuel pump
@landrysworkshop3 жыл бұрын
No part number. Go on eBay and look up 12 volt fuel pump.

Hey Bob… were you able to find the pump on eBay??
@roberthinze24253 жыл бұрын
@@landrysworkshop I did but I actually decided to keep the mechanical fuel pump. Just cracked it open hit it with some break cleaner and boom it worked again.

@@roberthinze2425 awesome!! I’m glad it worked out. Have a great day

how did you wire the fuel pump
@landrysworkshop2 жыл бұрын
I spliced into the power coming from the ignition key… so that way the pump wouldn’t keep running with the key off. I then hooked up the negative to my common ground at the transom.

Thanks for posting this! Will the electric fuel pump stop pumping onece reached the desired pressure, say 5-7lbs or it will conitnue to pump but carb prevents the fuel go in and build up some pressure in the gas line that feeds to the carb?
@landrysworkshop Жыл бұрын
The pump will keep pumping until the switch is turned off.

What do you do with the overflow tube
@landrysworkshop3 жыл бұрын
I blocked it off… I will shut off the fuel pump a few seconds before shutting off the engine.

nice man! you still having success with this fuel pump after using it all season? I'm going to try this on my boat. it's a 1973 Chrysler 70HP and it just wont stay full of gas.. got the switch and pump all wired up today. looking forward to trying it.

Is that aluminum you used to block off the fuel pump base?. PS It's not messily, looks fine to me. 😅

Does it supply enough fuel for high speed?
@landrysworkshop Жыл бұрын
It supplies fuel at a constant rate. Both fast and slow speeds.

is there no fuel return line necessary?
@kari53 Жыл бұрын
Fuel return lines in boats are illegal. All gas engines do not and should not run fuel back to the tank.

How did you connect the wires to a switch?
@landrysworkshop3 жыл бұрын
I have the power side of the fuel supply switch hooked up in series with the ignition switch with a fuse. I have the ground side hooked up to a good ground on the block.

@@landrysworkshop I saw your video and ran right to the store to grab the parts. Does your carb have two lines ? Mine has a metal line and another that is similar to a small hose.
@landrysworkshop3 жыл бұрын
@@tuned8675 yes.... mine had a steel line going from the outlet of the mechanical fuel pump to the inlet of the carburetor. I had a fuel injection hose going from the fuel tank to the pump. I had another piece of hose going from the top of the carburetor back to the fuel pump. I’ll have to make another video of the previous setup as a comparison of how it was... to how it now is.

You can't make a video saying " I'm going to show you how to convert from mechanical to electric pump" then jump straight to your engine running saying it's all done... you didn't show "how" you did it step by step... waste of everyone's time watching this video..
@landrysworkshop3 жыл бұрын
Try watching the whole video where the original pump is still in place. You will see me testing the new electric fuel pump, making the bracket for it, and showing the new fuel line in place with the filters. I always review my whole videos before posting. Furthermore… this is not meant to be instructions on how to convert “your” fuel system. Every system is different and this may not apply to you. This is simply me showing my boat conversion…
