Why are the trig functions of the reference angle and the trig functions of original angle? Eg. sin 30°=sin 150°

Growing up, I always thought that trigonometry is hard probably because of how my teachers teach it, but you, you made it easier for us to understand the concepts, and how to solve it.

So I guess you really do need to remember these 4 formulas in order to work out reference angles. Is there not a way to work it out through visuals of the unit circle and figure out the required steps through that?
@sofresh4life
@sofresh4life 4 жыл бұрын
Just remember that positive values moves in a COUNTER-clockwise direction...Then once you find value think to yourself “how many degrees would it take to get back to the x-axis?”....For example if you were given 150 degrees. That’s in quadrant 2....so to get back to the x axis you would have to add 30 degrees. 30 degrees is indeed that reference angle....Hope that helps

Bruuuuuuh.... Now I'm confused.. We were thought differently in school. Quadrant 1 = as is. Quadrant 2 = angle - 90° Quadrant 3 = angle - 180° Quadrant 4 = angle - 270° Because her reasoning was you were supposed to subtract the angle by the degree it went past.

What if your teacher doesn't allow converting radians to degrees? How would you figure out the reference angles in radians?
@mrfantasticguy6385
@mrfantasticguy6385 6 жыл бұрын
What he was doing except in radians. For Quadrant1 = The reference angle is itself For Quadrant2 = π - Angle in Quad2 For Quadrant3 = Angle in Quad3 - π For Quadrant4 = 2π - Angle in Quad4 So for example: The angle 11π/6. We know that it is in Quadrant 4 As it is pretty close to 2π Then we do 2π - (11π/6) = π/6 Therefore that is our reference angle!

*thank you for teaching in an understandable way~* however, i spotted a mistake at 19:10 in Tan 60° = √3 It should be: Tan 60° = 1/√3 In the given 30-60-90 triangle, Opposite Side = 1 Hypotenuse = 2 Adjacent Side = √3 · SOH CAH *_TOA_* · TOA, which is Tan = Opposite Sides/ Adjacent Therefore, Tan = 1/√3

If on the coordinate plane you move clockwise, why are you naming your quadrants counter clockwise ?
@richardlippert8309

Because quadrants on a coordinate plane always move counterclockwise, and positive angles always open counter clockwise in relation to the positive x axis… or so my text book says 🤷‍♂️

@garydickson
@garydickson 3 жыл бұрын
a bit late, but add 360 to the angle. the result you get is the angle you have to form CLOCKWISE. for example: say you're given the angle -400 degrees 1. add 360 to it and you get -40 2. -40 means the angle is formed in the 4th quadrant (when considering clockwise) 3. and now to find the ref angle all you have to do is subract the angle you get from 360. it might be a bit more work and confusing but thats how i usually work with them Trig is weird

I think I figured out an equation for. (Note: KZbin comments are very limiting for righting equations. But I'll explain with an example if things are unclear.) x𝛑 x𝛑 ------ will turn into ----- y y ----- x Using this formula, let's say 5𝛑 over 3 is our angle. (Cause it's an example used in the video. You will divide the entire thing by 5. So it is now 7𝛑 over 3, now divided by 5. The 5's end up cancelling each other out and you get 𝛑 over 3. This works will everything as long as x > 1 from what I can tell. If something is wrong, let me know.
@DiamondYoshi101
@DiamondYoshi101 4 жыл бұрын
Update: I don't think this works if x = y as it'll simplify to 𝛑 (like he stated)
