Use your favorite espresso coffee blend with Dolce Gusto capsule refill trick. Apparently it gives a good crema as well.

It's not about costs but taste, as you can put your favorite expresso blend. Besides, it isn't that difficult to do and it is easy to align the hole. Before using the capsule, put little mark with a permanent ink pen on the border of the capsule and on the capsule holder, then you can just align the marks.

I was able to get a machine for $40 in clearance because the handle was broken, and the company fixed it for free. You have the best quick fix for making a refillable filter. I use herbal coffees and teas, and this gave me the variety I was looking for. Love it.

Leave more room to overlap the sections. Pack down coffee hard with spoon. Works like a charm! Perfect coffee with crema!

The reason I'd refill in this way is my concern over all the plastic used to make these pods. So, nothing to do with being mean, & by the way, I don't see anything wrong with saving money, either. My cafetiere is brill for ordinary coffee and easy too.

I bought a Caffatily milk frother from Woolworths so I can have real milk (hate powdered) and use one espresso pod and fill mug with the frothed real milk - tastes so much better

For people like me this is helpful because Nescafe doesn't make the best quality coffee. Having the option of using a coffee that I prefer is just nice to have as an option. It's more for taste than to be cost effective.

thank you thank you thank---worked great, I also cut the milk pod (the inside filter is different) and made if for the creamer, put in "Coffee Mate"--works fantastic. I almost purchased a set of refillable s from Ebay for $29, so glad I saw this first

I just cut the flexible plastic lid off, refill, then replace the lid with alfoil. The machine makes a good seal. I haven't tried it with coffee, as I bought the machine for hot chocolate.

Thanks :) of all the crazy ways to refill the pods this is the only practicle one and it works !!!
@rrrlasse211 жыл бұрын
The bottom part needs to be from an espresso capsule. Milk, cappuchino, chocolate, etc, won't work because they use instant powder and have just a tiny hole instead of a grounds filter. So it will clogg up like you describe.
@TheFixieGuy12 жыл бұрын
@Neurogass I believe the alu foil has more to do with the freshness of the stored coffee pods than anything else. The holes in the white filter will regulate the pressure and flow..
@rider46512 жыл бұрын
Take it from the fridge, pour it into the cup :-) or buy a milk powder (coffee creamer) in any shop - which is the stuff they put inside the capsule.

What you 'believe' (that the point of a capsule machine is 'time') is not relevant: there are MANY points. For most folks I know, it's about having a decent crema, without shelling out $400 (or more) for a machine. If you think that regular filter coffee is remotely comparable to decent espresso, you've seriously been using Nescafé pods for too long or you drink 'American' coffee (which tastes like the dishwater used to wash out a bin full of week-old used coffee grounds).
@Spriggan8012 жыл бұрын
@TheFixieGuy works fine with coffe mate :D but u need use hot silicon pistol to seal holes that contain presure and u dont drop coffe on machine maybe we can use superior cap 12 times max
@k.sperling7 жыл бұрын
Be very careful with this... I tried this with ground coffee and ended up getting a refilled pod stuck in the machine, probably because it ends up just slightly taller than an original pod due to nesting the two pieces. Ended up having to disassemble the machine to get the pod out... NOT fun
@TheFixieGuy12 жыл бұрын
@Molly Liu if it is too fine ground it might do that. Use coarser grind then and it should be fine.
@maricelperez7503 жыл бұрын
Medium grind I supposed would be better. I have a fine grind coffee and tried this hack it doesn't seem to work so would it be the problem?!

Question: Espresso needs a lot of pressure to get right. How does this work when you already have a hole in the cup and, even worse, use two half's which aren't sealed?
@MateuszTrocha8 жыл бұрын
+captainkid1 The two halves are sealed. The reason for the overlap is to seal the two halves. As to there already being a hole, the cup needs to be aligned correctly in order for the machine not to create another hole but use the existing one.
@herberar Жыл бұрын
By the way, there is a little rubber gasket around the needle that punctures the capsule. If you are well aligned, there will be no problem regarding pressure loss. Cheers!

I tried it but it doesn't work when I fill with ground coffee, the hot water doesn't seem to be able to pour out of the capsule, and I have to wait about 10minutes because the pressure inside is too high to remove the capsule slider out.. Can anyone please tell me why ? please help.

Presumably the pods are super fresh. Filling them defeats the object as your pack will start losing flavour the moment you break the seal. First one fine, the rest less so.

Why don't you buy then a classic caffee machine? Who said that you need to use a Krupp coffee maker for your regular coffee? I still have my old coffee maker what I bought for around $10 and it does not need capsules. When I want something better that I make an Espresso Intenso.

A lot of those point rewards systems such as gas stations and credit cards allow you to redeem machines like these. I'm thinking they're thinking they'll make money off of you from the refills. Just my two cents.

David, penny pinching skinflints?...I thought it was called an "intelligent way to live". With my attitude you may end up in forbes magizine. It takes a penny to make a penny! It sure seems to me that there are way too many practicing excess, but if some ppl found simple ways to implement small savings here and there, it sure adds up!...Have a coffee today with a smile, hopefully to my response. :)

This is why I fucking love the internet. Awesome lifehack - simple, effective (just tried it) and permits folks to use coffee outside of the fucking floor-sweepings that Nescafé puts in its pods. What's the result, folks? A 'PERPETUAL' (refillable) pod. until 3D printers use denser/more stable feedstock, this solution is my favourite. I got the machine cheap - 'fiddy dallah' ($50) impulse purchase. The default pods taste like absolute shit, and at $8 for 16... Fuck You Nescafé.

This sux... I believe THE POINT of a capsule maschine is "time" and how easy it works! what's the point of this then? The use of a regular filter coffee maschine would be prefered before this.... Knowledge is, tasting the coffee from the maschine before bying it! Only you know what you like and the only way to figure that out is by tasting the different kinds.

why buy it? because false advertising fools you that there are MANY flavours to choose from - in New Zealand, NO. their answer to me...We are a global company & other flavours are for other (bigger) countries! Sorry but this has to be a wind up. You buy these machines for convenience and taste, so why in heavens name would you want to waste time cutting up pods? Invite your friends round and they will think you are a tight fisted so and so. Coffee for around 25 pence is hardly expensive. Here's a tip - buy a tin of Lavazza instant coffee for £2.50 and when you have finished with the tin, cut a slot in the top and use it as a piggy bank.
