I think it's may be ok at time cause they are paying homage to this culture. They are not acting as if they originated it like they do here in the states. It can be a thin line. Certain cultures have been abused so long in the states til now we don't see ii as other celebrating it. Cultures have been abused in the states.

As Mexican, living in the US, I can assure you, we do NOT have a problem with other people emulating and enjoying our culture. I very much admire and am intrigued by the Japanese myself. This whole “Cultural appropriation” is getting out of hand. We have real issues here, like actual racism and hatred toward us. The Japanese celebrating some aspects of Mexican culture is a welcome relief. In fact, if more people celebrated each other’s cultures, in a beautiful exchange, we would probably have a lot less racism, God bless

@純粋-u6i5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, this is exactly what I had seen growing up and I wanted no part of it so I dressed differently. Seeing their perspective of the same people is refreshing because I've always associated that attire with a bad lifestyle.
@MacMac13135 жыл бұрын
The difference between them and our Raza was that our people were living a lifestyle that didn't just come with the fashion but also with a lot of negativity. This wasn't a fashion but a way of life. And part of that life involved a lot of killings including innocent people from people who represented barrios who dressed like this. So while it may just be a style to dress like Raza in Japan our people lived that lifestyle and this just happened to be what our Raza wore. So it's no surprise that you were stereotyped because many low lives who ended up in jail, dead, killed innocent people and who didn't amount to sh*t in life dressed like this too !! That being said, I just want to make it clear for any peasants on here who don't know that this right here ( gang banging, which we call tirando barrio in Spanish ) was originally a way of our people uniting back in the 20's, 30's, 40's, and coming together to protect each other against the white majority who used to take advantage of our Raza, discriminate, and beat them. Which is where us Mexicans born in the States from illegal and farm working Mexicans eventually became to be known as Chicanos. Local Los Angeles neighborhoods and the Pachucos from ( later known as zoot suiters in Los Angeles ) Chuco Town in Texas were the ones who formed these barrios ( neighborhoods ) to protect each other. All of this dragged into the 70's and 80's where eventually the drug trade started growing and eventually this style of dressing came about and became known worldwide through the 90's where eventually it also started changing over time and now it's obsolete here in LA. It's now a part of the people who lived through these eras and now can be seen as a retro movement to dress like this since people who still bang out here don't dress like this anymore. This isn't cultural appropriation either for those sensitive Raza nowadays acting like black people who think that everything is being stolen from them 😀. The example I like to give is that many people out here Los Angeles have been wearing for the last ten years Italian designer clothing. Does that make any of those people " culture vultures " or appropriating Italian culture ?? Nah !!! Japanese are not changing the name of this style nor are they claiming this to be originated by Japanese. So fuck all you peasants with poor minds on your period. Mexican/Chicano pride Ese 🇲🇽

@@MacMac1313 And that is the difference between appropriation and appreciation. The people and the Culture are being respected. Its appropriation when you are taking from some other Cultural and disrespecting the people who originated it, lying and saying you invented parts of the Culture when you didnt, falsely representing the Cultural, etc. Like when the Kardashians supposedly "invented boxer braids" which they didn't invent and that's not even what the style is originally called. That's disrespectful and appropriation.
@MacMac13135 жыл бұрын
@@TheIsPurple " Boxer braids " are self explanatory. Many people other than blacks have worn braids for centuries. Native Americans as well as the French. Which is where you will see many Mexicans till this day wearing them. I'm aware that people like Kim Kardashian have popularized many things that have been around for decades and longer but the only reason why she has been able to do that is because dumb ass women who watched her show try to emulate her and everything that she and her family do. For example, I remember back in 2012 - 2013 Kim Kardashian began doing her hair in a bun up high. Not long after that I went to lounge to celebrate one of my boys birthday and many women had their hair up high in a bun like Kim that night 😁. Lo and behold, women of all backgrounds started doing their buns up high like that out here in Los Angeles for awhile. Still do here and there as a matter of fact. But it was Kim Kardashian whom they were emulating after they saw her doing her hair like that. Women can't see other women as popular as Kim Kardashian doing something without imitating. Just like Kim having a big ass was nothing new either. Blacks weren't the only ones to do it first either if we're talking on camera. Thick and voluptuous women were popular amongst Mexicans by at least 20-30 years before it became popular in the States amongst blacks and so called Hispanics out here. Don't believe me ??? Just look up Lina Santos ( Mexican Marylin Monroe ) on KZbin and you can all thank me later.

If it appears it's meant to be offensive and targeted, then it's bad. A good example of a possible offensive joke that often isn't is Family Guy. Some of their jokes taken out of context would look very offensive. @Ah Dindu Nuffin Wow. Way to be extremely racist in one comment. Oh well, we all have our own opinions. Also, coming from a half-White and half-Asian person, I have experienced both Asian and American culture first hand. Asian culture is very strict, clean, traditional. You're not encouraged to be yourself. You're expected to mirror those around you and become successful. I love American culture because it is the exact opposite. You can be yourself and there is so much more diversity. It truly is a melting pot here. I have Asian, Black, Hispanic, White, and Native American friends. Everyone is happy and free and can do as they please. Some people don't want to go to college while others do want to go to college and make lots of money. I love it here because there's so much cultural diversity and there is never a dull moment. I'm not hating on Japanese culture, but I do have sympathy for those that grew up there, especially the women. There's a lot of pressure on everyone over there.

I absolutely LOVE this as a Chicana from LA! Yes they are taking/using aspects of my culture, but I know hella Mexicans who are fascinated with and use aspects of Japanese culture... These ladies are doing it with RESPECT and LOVE. It also makes sense culturally why Japanese women are drawn to Chola/Chicana style - a lot of the same fight against machismo and submissiveness runs in our cultures. They see the strength in Chicana women and get their own strength and feel free from it. And that's a beautiful thing that makes me happy and proud of my culture! If I ever make it out to Japan definitely checking out these spots to support the Japanese Chicanos. They are family in my mind! ♥

@@Netty925 What is the definition of cultural appreciation? Cultural appreciation is when elements of a culture are used while honoring the source they came from. It is important to note that appreciation involves respect and value. Appropriation would be if they where using it only for like halloween or to mock them. They are neither mocking, making fun of or insinuating that they are the creators of the style they are clearly listing their reasoning as to why they choose to appreciate this type of culture. Some people who wear dreads say that hair is hair and it could be worn as they please without acknowledging or respecting where the style originated from. These people are not only wearing this style on a day to day basis they are educating themselves about every aspect of the culture not altering it or taking it as their own.
