You did a great job!! Please add a disclaimer for those with small children about lead paint on older piece, that by using a heat gun can spread the lead paint airborne. My child had high levels of lead, when state came in to test for lead paint on windows, doors, and such. We were told not to use a heat gun near child's living area only outside because of the danger airborne lead then landing on surfaces even in pieces too small to see with a naked eye. I like how you suggested to do this outside. Another helpful hint they told us was when cleaning up after removal of old lead paint areas, to use dishwasher soap it has this unique way of encapsulating the lead dust. I hope this advice is helpful and saves more children from lead poisoning. 9 is considered very high my son had 22!! We had lived above a old general store that had removal old leaded gas tanks but didn't remove the soil properly and it leeched into water supply. I immediately moved, but they came to new place to check and some windows and doors had old lead paint that was exposed over the years from chipping. So we had to strip all off and clean the area with the dishwasher soap then they tested again before letting us repaint.

Good to Know. Another reason why I only like to use it outdoors. :)

Ur my kind of girl. U too love the old vintage pieces like me. Those knob plates r beautiful n I’ve used that Run n Buff n it’s great. Especially when u have a old floor lamp that is brass but it’s pitted n rusty n can’t get back the brass so I use old faithful rub & buff. U r so lucky to find those. Their hard to find n I love the idea at what ur going to with them. I wish I thought of that, darn it. I’ve got so many doors in my house it would take till I’m super old n grey before I got it all done ( I’m old now I’ll be 70ty in Dec.) Have fun doing ur doors n please be sure to show all of us ur finished product. ♥️😊👍🤟🏻

Wow those turned out gorgeous. Haven’t tried it myself but heard boiling for 15 minutes in water and baking soda (in a pot you won’t cook with again) should work too. Oh the rub n buff was the perfect finish, thank you!

I am about to tackle a project of restoring (?) all of the original door knobs, plates and hinges in a 1920's built house we are renovating. Your video helped show me one really neat way to consider going about this. Thank you so much for sharing!

Our first home was a Sears and Roebucks' mail order Craftsman. :D It had all the details you could want, from the clawfoot tub to the leaded/stained glass windows. But someone had painted all the woodwork and all the hardware. WHY? So I spent a year stripping everything wooden... everything, floors included. When I got to the hardware I was expecting old iron or steel, imaging how surprised I was when everything was brass. I did what you did except I went to Goodwill and bought an old crockpot...lol Did not think about using an aluminum liner.

I love this! I'm going to do this on some old hinges I found. I've never seen Rub-n-Buff before. I wonder if Lowe's, etc. might carry it. Thanks for the DIY...would love to see more from you! ❤

It makes me nervous that you’re using your crockpot that you cook with. Get a used one just for things like this or just use an old pan on the stove. Then use a soft wire brush. Mine just peeled off.

Exactly puts a pan in but then scraps right into the crock pot instead of removing all the way
