Actually, it was published 8 months after his death. It was several different strains merged into one piece, the manuscript date to around 1907-8, though some say as late as 1914; as one of the strains shared a resemblance to Magnetic Rag, but those claims are unverifiable. John Stark named it Reflection rag as a way to Reflect on Joplin’s life and career. It implies that even though they had disagreements the still though of each other in a positive light to some extent.

it has to be composed just before Joplin moved for good to NYC (Stark had it in his reserve of pieces)
