Sitting watching this from Whakatane wanting to hear your thoughts given where you are and your first shot of Whale Island! Love New Zealand!

That’s awesome! Can’t beat Whakatane man - I grew up in coastlands so that was my local beach. You know it’s nice but when you leave you get an even deeper appreciation for it

As someone who moved the other way, I would agree that New Zealand has stunning natural beauty, but so does the UK, just not the places that Kiwis tend to visit! Our cultures, or at least NZ European and British culture are very similar. We quote 95% similarity, the other 5% keeps life interesting. As for geography, UK size = 244,376 km2, NZ size = 268,000 km2, so very comparable. What differs is transport infrastructure making NZ feel bigger.

That's very true! Fortunately being based in Manchester has made it easy for us to spend time in the Lake District and Peak District - also did a trip the Isle of Mull in Scotland so have enjoyed the outdoors over here a lot now too. Such an interesting point about the difference in landmass (had to fact check that to be sure haha). Not having trains and motorways/freeways everywhere is definitely what makes it feel a lot bigger. Appreciate such a detailed comment!
