Maybe It’s that I’ve just gotten old enough to notice this, but I can’t believe that people are once again doing this whole song and dance where they pretend that a “good not great” game is literally the Devil until the patches and DLC fix most of their issues and they return to the game all bewildered of how it’s actually good now, a few years after of which the community has completely forgotten about the initial outrage and can start it all over again with the new instalment. All of this doubly so, when the Fallout 4’s initial reception is such an obvious comparison. Also what is up with people who play games like this for hundreds of hours, only to write a review about how the game was the worst thing that they’ve ever played, is it perhaps that these bandwagons are actually comprised of people who have such a weak backbone and strong need to belong and follow the leader, that they are willing parrot anything as long as they can make sure that they’re not standing out of the crowd by doing so. Or maybe it’s just some sort of masochism, there is nothing that would make me play a game that I don’t enjoy for more than 20 hours. Anyway, this was a good and informative video as I didn’t follow the entire buildup to the game’s release.

I think there is a disconnect between what we do in a game and imaging the possibility of a game. A never meet your hero situation if you will. Starfield is pretty much what it said it was. Needs work, but I enjoy it.

Same here. I enjoy it. SF was never supposed to be another Skyrim or Fallout anyways. It's something new. I blame YT for all the hate towards the game, because people tends to follow the trends, and especially hate trends. I still have faith, Bethesda will give SF all the love it deserves. And don't forget as well Skyrim/FO4. Was exactly same situation, until CK released and modders started to spread the love.

People are entitled to their opinion. A lot of valid complaints were made about the game and Bethesda shut them down instead of taking any advice on board. And it had like 8 years of “work”. You could say the same about Cyberpunk, but man, at least that game felt they were trying to push the boat out; the gameplay alone just embarrasses Starfield.

Hell, even 3 planets. I've come to realize that bigger is not always better. Elden Ring for example had a very repetitive, copy and pasted feel to it's world once I put about 30 hours in and never once did I feel that during any other Fromsoft game. I think a smaller but denser world is the direction games need to go instead of this dick measuring contest about who has the biggest game world that has been the current trend recently.

Ubisoft are the biggest offenders in this regard. Once they started making Far Cry games 10 times larger with every new release, you began to run into the repetive copy and pasted grind that now stops me from playing those games more than a couple hours at a time.

Been playing this for about 150 hours in total. I find the ship building and outposts so confusing that I’ve not bothered with either. I’m just playing missions along with side missions just to finish it. The activities really grind my gears having to travel to umpteen different planets just to talk to someone then onto somewhere else to get something then all the way back to talk to them again. I went down the pirate route as well but now I get fed up of constantly getting arrested in a lot of the systems despite paying any bounties. And the not being able to fast travel when carrying to much is such a pain. Not a bad game and I’ve enjoyed some of it but a lot of boring travelling.

It needs a lot of work, but I've been having a blast playing anyway (coming up on 1000 hours soon). There is so much that has been dumbed down in this game to get it out the door. I'm convinced that if the reward structure was set properly, many facets of this game would make more sense. Out of the gate it seems there is no real economy, game can be cheesed with widget mfg at outposts, once you build a good end-game ship credits become useless, etc. I think the intention was for everything to be much harder. Outposts should have to be built to mine raw materials to even just enable travel further out the arm of the galaxy. That would make the outpost system make more sense. They've ALMOST got shipbuilding hamstrung enough to force you into multiple purpose-built ships, but not quite. But, there should be a good reason that you might have 10 ships in your stable, or even 20, other than vanity projects. I think the game has a HUGE amount of potential and hasn't even gotten off the ground yet. Even without the release of the creation kit, the modders have already "single-handedly" made something playable out of this mess. Once the creation kit is released I think things will explode!

The modding statement is patently untrue, all you're doing is repeating uninformed gossip. ONE modder that makes mods that turn single-player games into multi-player games has indicated they're not interested in Starfield. That's it. Show me anyone else other than them that has said they aren't going to mod for Starfield. There are over 7000 mods already and it was ranked the 11th most modded game of all time on Nexus in January. Those mods have been a LOT of fixes and the Creation Kit isn't even out yet.

I just love the whole "rotatingplanetmechanic", it is sooo awesome to see planets and suns and moons rising and vanishing in the skies of different planets :) Edit: Oh, and every time you think you have to open a menu, try the scanner first:)

It's a great game. I don't know what people were expecting. Bethesda delivered a Bethesda game. It's better than FO4, maybe on par with original release Skyrim. Sure, there are things I'd like improved, and they're not going to all be the same things other people want. Most of the whining seems to come from people who either don't grok the setting, or simply don't know how computers work. Seriously looking forward to the DLC and mods.

Bethesda and basically every other gaming company are not here to please your whims, they're here to get your money first and foremost, babying Todd and Emil will only make them think they doing good, criticizm is extremely important for self imrpovement. Even with accepting no space to planet smooth transition, no atmospheric flight, suspicion of no ground transportation, the game still fell below my expectations. The lifeless cities are filled with lifeless drones, the area outside of the city has the same procedural generation mechanic as any planet in the game. The POI types have no variations that make visiting the same type POI just a grind for same loot. Sandbox game play and role-playing are very basic and have no depth. Quite a few ship habs have no supporting game play. The best part of the game are actually some of the quests and is actually the opposite of what you would expect in a Bethesda game. Once you have experienced the quests, you are done with it. So I adjusted my game-play to what we do have. I enjoy setting up my manufacturing outposts to gain XP and cash. I use the XP to get more perks, I then do the perk challenges to further grow my character. I use the cash and new perks and level unlocks to create the best ship I can. Any exploration I do is related to finding the best planets for resources and outposts. I will investigate any POI that is new to me, but I pretty much leave the ones I have visited before alone. Instead I do mostly Missions from the Kiosk mission boards, mostly space battles because I like boarding ships and taking them as well as taking any loot or contraband. I will do cargo and NPC transportation missions. I escort NPCs on foot to their outpost destinations and do any trade, or anti-pirate missions that can be found there. Once I have my character level to where I want it, and my ship upgraded, I start doing the major quests. By this time I have all the money I need and I use the extra cash to experiment with new ship designs that I may use in the next NG+. I have been enjoying that, but I am running dry here, while others ran dry way before me. What I am expecting from Bethesda is to add more story DLC, some sort of ground transport, give their major cities and NPCs more life and de-uglify more of them, add a survival mode, add game-play to ship habs that have none, like the Brig and Infirmary. They should add more variations to POIs, add more depth and support to role-play loops like being a Bounty Hunter, Pirate, Mercenary, Scientist, Spy, Doctor, Space Trucker, Manufacturer, etc. They need to make travel within a solar system more hands on while providing more random encounters while doing so. Also, release their mod support kit.

Starfield should've only been released on PC first, then after 6months maybe, released on the new gen consoles, NOT old gen consoles. The dealbreaker for me with Starfield, is the extremely limited shipbuilder, and almost non-existant crafting system.

Its quite obvious they built starfield as an unpainted canvas for us to fill out. Try go to Maheo 1 and scan the planet, you will find a big mansion there, then you will see the game wasnt supposed to be as sanitized and PEGI 3+ as it turned out to be

It's very nearly a game that I love. If combat gets improved with things like dismemberment, and a treasure system gets added so you can at least find rare gems instead of simple iron and lead on these planets, hopefully better landmarks with more quests cause it's ridiculous that there's this giant alien creatures skeleton on Mars that's just a simple landmark for you to stare at, and some kind of land vehicle gets added so I can jump hills in zero gravity with a rover instead of walking/jumping around (probably the absolute worst part of the game to me) I'll be happy with the game. There are other issues but I think those are the big ones for me that constantly effects the quality of moment to moment gameplay. Its a game with massive potential as the hype around it before release also proves and I hope these big fundamental changes are made to it. If not, I can't say I'll be coming back to it unfortunately. I hate the point people take the hatred to, but I don't deny that it's been a massively disappointing experience. Especially coming from Bethesda cause they have always delivered in the past in alot of what's wrong with this game. Like the dismemberment. I only make such a big deal of it cause as far back as at least fallout 3 it's been present and fallout 4 had the best of any game. And they go from that to just straight up not having it for this game and it really takes a lot away from what would otherwise be pretty fun combat. Especially with zero or light gravity sections where limbs could fly around. Something so simple as a feature they (Bethesda specifically) have had for decades in other games being added could really be a difference maker for my enjoyment of the game.

Starfield 2 is next on the list. Its simple solution. Update Starfield with all players made ships trough a game update and it is a win win for all. And it is then legengery. Starfield with 65784 ships and only incresing in ships numbers by every update. A true game Legend. If the devs do not do it for gamers then they are fools and plain stupid 😢

They never gave the impression they were working on the game for 25 years lol... Only complete muppets actually thought that... But yeah it was the scope that killed it, having 1000 planets was pointless because they could not even make 1 planet worth exploring... If they limited the scope to around 20/30 planets and limited the number and scale of the landing zones it could have worked better because they could have polished them all by hand, and actually made exploration fun and interesting... As is stands now exploring the random landing zones outside of the hand-crafted content is boring bland and repetitive with the same handfull of POI's copy/pasted - Its really bad... And while they will obviously add more hand-crafted content and thats cool, i really dont see how they can make having 1000 planets actually a good thing... Without re-doing/upgrading the procedural generation tech...

Hmmm let's see: minimal content, cookie cutter chosen one story, revamped shouts into space magic, loading screens upon loading screens upon loading screens, heavily repeated "random" locations, every npc stares at you when you walk by, the entire lore of constellation makes absolutely no sense and is ham-fisted into the game, green swamp filter, no FOV slider, walk slower than NPC's, extremely limited ship mechanics, beta patch update, another beta for a patch update, oh and another beta for a patch update. You might think these are small issues but ask yourself, if they are so small why weren't they fixed? Why didn't a Bethesda dev play their game and think "oh it feels bad to walk slower than npcs you're in conversation with" and change that? That takes all of 10 minutes to do. "it's good enough" is ALL over this game and basically every AAA game in recent history. Immersion and gameplay above all else. That's what matters to me. Starfield is lacking both those in a serious way.

Think people are still to focus 1000 planets that runied the game. Just a lot of bad game design choices and executio, Planets are the least amount work they put in game. Starfield can take place in one city and still have a bad story and bad gameplay system

This was the most sanitized, politically correct, woke, soulless, bad writing, bad characters and boring gameplay that Bethesda ever made. That’s how you know a game is bad, it’s when after you finish it how long does the characters and story stay with you. For me, it didn’t last a day. There are games where I couldn’t stop thinking about it for months after finishing it. But this one was instantly forgotten. You know what recent game and character stayed with me for a long time after finishing it? Final Fantasy 7 remake and rebirth. Like those characters and story are just so damn well written. Cyberpunk 2077 was another one. The characters just stay with you. Or like last of us 1. Mass Effect trilogy had the same effect. But Starfield was completely devoid of any heart and soul.

Those initial reviews of Starfield are baffling. Are journalists out of touch with what gamers want? I remember reviewers dismissing Days Gone as just another zombie game. Jaded journalists were so tired of open world games and zombie games that they couldn't stand to play another one. It has 71% on metacritic but 9/10 user score on Steam. I think the same thing happened in reverse with Starfield. Reviewers were certain it would be popular, so they gave it rave reviews. Were they afraid of disappointing Papa Phil? What exactly happened there?

They just gave their thoughts on it. Most reviewers have some knowledge on game development so their exceptions form the trailers were much closer to what the game was compared to the average player.

I was disappointed it didn't launch on the PS5. Also where are the aliens??? I'd like 16 different races. At least 8. With their own abilities. Factions for war. And they get stronger depending on your help, that way the replay you could help different races be strong through different play through. And kill the loading screen. Even though I still haven't play this one yet.

I dont understand everyone that says game is good, i played morrowind for 2 Years same with oblivion, played fallout 3 and New vegas for 1.5 years each. Fallout 4 for 2 years and Skyrim for 3 years. I dont believe starfield can comeback like cyberpunk. Cyberpunk feels like a new game and has way better gameplay. Starfield has a story that doesnt really change anything based on your decisions they lead to the same thing. That alone doesnt help the game. Idk how people can contiune that janky gameplay. Cyberpunk in first person still feels alive and the world feels alive. Starfield needs a overall in gameplay like what cyberpunk has accomplished

Starfield has great things in it, but is still too shallow in a few aspects ..and has no exploration.. => over time, expect / hope patches, DLCs packs & mods will bring it up to speed, like it did with F4 over time (though, Starfield needs catching up, if definitely feels shallower than F4 at release) => but besides giving Starfield more depth in a few aspects, what could really get players hyped / interested in coming back are HUGE explorable maps, one huge map per new DLC.., exploration was missing in Starfield, big new maps, each bigger than Far Habor (closer to the map size of F4 itself) are needed.., also cause survival mode needs such maps.. ... if they do try to bring us new big maps (new planet to explore with the complexity of F4.., not of standard Starfield planets), it might need time, especially if they are trying to get it to run on Series S too (think the standard planets in Starfield were so "empty" due to Series S limitations.., the more complex areas, like cities instead had loadingscreen hell.., just a huge & complex map to explore, like the F4 map, getting it to run without too many loadings on Series S is likely the challenge)

I agree with this in part. If they had a big, handcrafted area outside each major city, or a few scattered about on other worlds, or even two cities separated/connected by a big handcrafted region, that would add the organic exploration & discovery fallout & elder scrolls have. How weird was it that there weren't even any roads or railways or sewers even, leading out of NA?! It was a missed opportunity. I say this as someone who really enjoys starfield as it is & who is excited for dlc. I expect modders will add these large handcrafted areas in time.

I think the major problem with the game is the communities high expectations. The gameplay is great and it feels like a combination of fallout 76 and Skyrim in all the best ways possible also the character creator was the most advanced for Bethesda games. Also also the traits were brought back from New Vegas.
