Refraction of Light -
- This phenomenon of change in the path of light in going from one medium to another is called refraction of light. Thus refraction of light is the phenomenon of bending of light from its original path on entering another medium. The refraction occurs right at the boundary of the two media.
- XY is a plane surface separating medium 2 from medium 1.
- A ray of light travelling in medium 1 along AO, strike the boundary XY of two media at O.
- In medium 2, the ray travelling along OB - which is NOT in line with AO.
- The ray travelling along AO bends towards normal NON’ (on XY)and goes along OB.
- This change in path or bending of light occurs at O, i.e. light is refracted at O, when it goes from medium 1 to medium 2.

Mam there is no refraction when incident ray is normal to the glass slab but when we draw a thick line on a sheet of white paper in such a way that it is normal to the glass slab and when we put the glass slab on the line which is normal to the glass slab then the line doesn't appear to bend because there is no refraction but the line appears to be raised,why?
