I might add though that it was Lukashenko's son, a general in Belarussian army who managed this operation, and sold Belarussian visas and plane tickets to these people. He earned hundreds od thousands. Lukashenko wants international recognition. He wants EU to come crawling to him, asking for his mercy. I'm someone who is very much against illegal crossing of boundaries. It is a sad plight to see so much people suffering, which makes me want to say open the borders. However the issues EU will face could be problematic: 1) It will encourage more illegal migrants to come through the area. 2) It is a slap to well developed democracies of Europe, a threat that will be used again and again against them. 3) Many of these migrants from Islamic countries are extremists who may/may not cause issues and problems in the progressive Western Europe.

I am not from Poland so I may not be 100% right. But I think the best solution would be that, Poland let these people in and nurture them good. These same people would later live in Poland and help the country grow. They would always have a sense of gratitude in their hearts for Poland. Yes there will be economic cost that EU (or maybe individual countries) had to bear but on the other hand the whole plan of Belarus falls flat.

This time, I don't think we should entirely blame EU countries for being xenophobic and trying to get around the international refugee law to avoid refugee at any cost. (We do some amount of xenophobic sentiments from _some_ portion of EU this time too). Belarus fucked up really hard now by luring these refugees who could've used their money to properly legally enter the EU. I think those Polish soldiers should just provide food, mattresses, some warm blankets etc and have those refugees make a living right there inside Belarusian borders for now since they're currently Belarus's refugee after all. Belarus would probably learn a lesson or two from this.
