Jim Crow 1870-1965, human zoos 1945-1958. We can go on and on. Let’s not pretend a finally liberated group of people “can just move on”.

Why throw everyone in the same box? The period from 1890-1920, is often called the “nadir” of African American history. During this period, African Americans lost access to many of the civil rights which they had gained during Reconstruction. Anti-black violence, lynchings, segregation, legalized racial discrimination. In fact, there were enough black voters between 1877 and 1901 to enable eleven black southerners (all Republicans) to sit in Congress. In 1890, however, Mississippi became the first state to effectively disfranchise African Americans, using a literacy test (it required an interpretation of the state constitution) and a poll tax as its methods. Other legal methods used in the South were the grandfather clause and white primary; extralegal methods included violence and terror (for example, lynchings, riots) and the denial of credit and, employment to blacks.

I don’t have an issue with anything he stated. If you think one candidate poses an existential threat to the functioning of Democracy primarily due to objecting to the transition of power. Or a candidate who is “conventionally normal and governmentally qualified “ but doesn’t deliver on his promises. Either way it’s a fools errand to want to vote for either. However, if I want Democracy to continue unabated then Biden is my vote.
