I have the earlier version, the RP10, and I've found the earlier skeletal plinth to be more practical as the disconnected plinth surround carries the clear complete cover and is removable, should one prefer that. I've had no difficulty mounting/using other brand, 2 screw, cartridges.

I have this TT. It’s a masterpiece. I can’t even imagine the Naia because this is so good.

I just set up my P10 paired with a Hana Umami Red cartridge. Curious about the differences between it and the Apheta 3...

I loved my P10 w/ Apheta3. Unfortunately, the cartridge died within 30 days and the dealer (not Gramophone) was extremely difficult to work with. They even questioned my integrity.. So I begrudgingly returned it. Life is just too short !

I’m curious the thought process behind making the plinth as light as possible but the other parts heavy? Ceramic is a pretty heavy material, and the brass insert and the big metal housing.

If I can be of any help so late, it's because their philosophy is to have mass only where it is needed, i.e. the platter and housing, and absolutely nowhere else that it isn't needed and can introduce resonances.

How does the Planar 8 compare?

When I bought my P8 a few months ago, I went to the demo with every intention of buying the P10 with Apheta 3 cartridge, but hearing them back to back made me go for the P8 with Ania Pro. The P10 is capable of producing an amazing 3 dimensional sound stage but I found the P8 sounded just more musical and fun. It still produces a fantastic sound stage, not quite as 3D as the P10 but it put a smile on my face more than the P10 did which to my ears sounded a bit grown up and serious in comparison. The P10 is capable of transporting you into the recording venue while the P8 puts the venue into your room, that's the difference in a nut shell. But I fell in love with the sound of the P8 rather than the P10 which I acknowledge is technically the better turntable. The P8 celebrates the music with a more forward presentation while the P10 leans towards a more analytical sound. Both great turntables though.

Talk about the exact opposite approach to most super high end turntables like those from Clear Audio for example. Their top spinner weighs in at a massive 771 pounds!!!

Hi Christopher, yes, many high end 'table vendors use a high mass approach, including some we sell. But we continue to have some fiercely loyal Rega customers. As always it isn't so much the engineering philosophy that matters, but how well your design and build teams implement that approach

@@GramophoneMD I've always leaned towards the "high mass" approach as being better. I mean if Clear Audio, who I mentioned, is doing that in their top turntables that speaks volumes. Others like our Canadian maker Oracle follow the same approach and their gear is top notch in my humble opinion. Then again an argument could be made with the example of the Linn LP12 as a low mass approach which has worked well for decades. Like you said it is how well it is implemented that ultimately makes a great turntable.
