Thanks Steve. I’ll get to work on it as soon as I can. I’ll say now she drives easily at 3,900 Revs sitting on 23kts and we got a top speed of 40kts with the twin 350 Yamaha V8 outboards. Fuel burn was low and comfort in chop was excellent for a sports cruiser style of boat.

@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Dan, loved the drone footage. Would be great if you could show some of the handling and ride characteristics in some rougher water situations. The boat looks magnificent but would like to understand the impact of the 15.8° deadrise on rough water ride.
@autobahnscott3 жыл бұрын
Also it looks like you show two identical boats. Are they similarly equipped or minor differences?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife3 жыл бұрын
@@autobahnscott good feedback Steve I will because we do have some drone footage running at speed into and across some decent chop. I can generally notice the quality of ride because I’m hiding downstairs in the bow flying the drone. My feeling was that the displacement and build quality meant that the boat did not bounce around like you would think. At 15-20kts into the chop she was very comfortable and in the cabin we remained dry of course. Downwind and waves she’s easy peasy so no worries at all and you can do faster runs downwind. So yes while a lower deadrise can be a sign of a bumpy ride this was not my experience. No rattles and she skipped through it comfortably.

Sorry Steve i haven't forgotten, summer is starting to crank down here so i've been slammed at work. I think i'll likely end up getting time to finish this and a bunch of my other unfinished videos to upload over the summer holidays in December/Jan. If i can get to it before i will. Thanks heaps for watching. I do think that Regal is a top boat so want to give the edit the time it deserves.

An outboard?!? Wow. I didn’t expect that. What’s the advantage over an inboard on this class of boat?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
Speed, servicing and more internal volume and storage are the main ones. On old boats you could also add safety as you reduce explosion risk with petrol outboards vs petrol inboards.

Is this boat superior than the Riviera? I’m worried about rusting on the stainless steel on this boat compare to the Riviera you highly praised and I’m considering your high opinion when you toured the Riviera factory and spoke highly with the staff about workmanships while I’m looking to upgrade my next boat. This boat looks ideal for my need now but I’m worried about rusting and workmanships whether the same quality as a Riviera.

Of the US builders I would say Regal is one of the best build quality I've seen. I've personally sold used Regal's over the last 20yrs when I used to be a boat salesman and they always did very well at survey. Many of the parts were standing up well to the Aussie elements. So while these are a very different style to Riviera it appears to me that they do compare fairly on quality. However I have not been to the Regal factory so i'm just making observations on the many Regals i've driven and sold the last 20yrs.

Dan, could you make a video to explain why you like outboards? Let’s say you really wanted a submersible swim platform… and your only option is the Regal 36 GP and the XO. Help!
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife3 жыл бұрын
G'day Carl, yeah that's a top ideal actually. So i don't always like outboards. I understand the benefits of different drive systems for different people and locations. If i was in a country where you winterise your boat i would likely have sterndrive on the Regal because long summer days in the Northern Hemisphere would be sweet with everyone chilling out the back. Drop down platforms are another consideration as you say and i've noticed they add additional stability while the boat is at rest so another possible benefit depending on location the boat is used. If i had my way i would have a different boat for each day of the week, and they would all have different and unique features for the specific missions i want to apply to each boat. But I'm Dan Jones and not Dan Bilzerian so i need to think about cost and practicality along with what location i plan to use the boat. I'll put this on my list of video ideas and make this when i have access to some different drive systems at the same time. Thanks for the feedback Carl i appreciate it!

Thanks Dan, I’m in Miami FL by the way. No need to winterize! Keep it up mate. Excellent content and delivery. You could very well be the next “Boat Test dot com”!
@autobahnscott3 жыл бұрын
From what I gather the biggest advantage of outboards is being able to tilt the lower unit out of the water in a salt water environment to avoid corrosion. If your boat is spending most of its life on a lift then not as big of a deal. There are some other outboard advantages such as freeing up space in the engine compartment, easier to replace or remove engines for major work. Some of the downsides of outboards seem to be much pricier than a similar horsepower sterndrive and of course take up space on the transom and might not look as good as the sleek lines of a stern drive. Outboards --> saltwater Sterndrive --> freshwater

Love the videos Dan. I like the Regal 360 but when I went on one recently it seems too big for our uses, mostly day cruising and dinners out and just seeing how we take to cruising. Do you think the Sealine 335 or 335v would be a good place to start. Also looking at the Formula 350. Thanks!
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
G'day Scott, the Sealine is also fairly spacious for her size so you may find the same issue with it then as it's only marginally smaller than the Regal. If you are just dipping your toes in the water have a think about Jeanneu Merry Fisher or Beneteau Antares. The build quality isn't the same standard but they are popular, easy to sell and what I would consider a great entry into boating or a stepping stone purchase. I've not been on the Formula so can't comment on that.

Excellent tour of the boat! Absolutely no critique there. While I do love this boat, it would be nice if Regal could find a way to design in some small hatches or ports to get natural ventilation below deck. From what I could see in the video, it didn’t seem to have any. Anyways, keep up with the fantastic videos!
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife3 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the feedback. I think as they are a built in Florida they would place higher value on air conditioning, just like everyone here in Queensland does. I suspect this would be their primary focus over natural ventilation and possibly influences some design choices?
@stevescott22182 жыл бұрын
I think gigs has an excellent point. That was exactly my view. In my opinion additional windows would be great even if just for light. I’m guessing the primary reason is cost. This boat seems to be missing a few things that previous models had such as: front cabin windows, anchor wash down hose, dishes, spot light, and other either standard or optional accessories offered on previous builds.

Do they have an EV one yet?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife5 ай бұрын
I don’t see the calculation for EV making sense on boats yet. The weight of battery you would need to be equal to the energy that a tank of diesel/petrol provides would literally sink the boat. And the cost is prohibiting. Makes more sense to design more efficient hulls and engines.

Why outboard? Diesel engines traditionally are more reliable and require less maintenance…
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
I think the progress on outboard tech over the last 5-10yrs has come so far it makes sense to use outboard on many more boats than what we would have considered it for in the past. In my experience these new 4 stroke outboards are so amazing that reliability is not so much of a concern. Water contamination in fuel seems to be the only thing that stops me on a modern outboard these days.
@mbnovik Жыл бұрын
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife I don't know much about gasoline vs diesel engines in the marine environment, but in my humble opinion if you will change oil, diesel would last you forever... A lot less moving and complicated parts.

Very expensive boat with a high maintenance cost and a high fuel cost if you're considering getting a boat like this you better dig deep down in that pocket
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife2 жыл бұрын
I think it's all relative to be fair. If you're passionate enough you'll find the budget for the boat that suits you best. The Regal's i've inspected appear to be a very high build quality so running outboards as opposed to inboard petrols should actually give you a lower running cost. This boat is only running a couple of 300Hp Yamaha's so yes fuel burn will be moderately high at fast cruise but you'll get there quicker than a sterndrive or shaft drive so it evens out depending on conditions and your driving style. Compared to the quad 425Hp Regulator i ran the other day this thing sips the juice.
