Nice guitar, Jeff! Smart move keeping the lights low when you play that one! @8:35 Thumb bass note! Seems like you don't do that often.

That looks like a lot of fun...and inspiring to play da blues. I've always wanted one but put other guitar purchases ahead of it.

It sounds really good! Nice video!! I wonder what it sounds like run through some higher gain...distortion, overdrive...pedals? Since it has a pickup, I bet that also sounds really cool?! Thanks for showing us your new score! ...jealous. Always wanted one of those!

Hi Jeff, I have just bought one of that, second hand for 400 € (Italy). Now, this is my second resonator. Once I used to have a Hohner dobro (wood body and spider bridge cone), cheap but very good, I know the difference between the sounds of the two types of bridge, I know that spider have more sustain and all...but I wanted to ask you a couple of things. My RC2 has a hole like yours, positioned higher than yours, I did not noticed it when I bought it (too much excited in touching it ;-) as it was cover by a little blue sticker. I removed it and I could see some wood of the soundwell...could a pickup have been put as well?Maybe... The sound of it: nice, punchy attack, lots of volume, very very little sustain...but strange...very much resonating if I'm not muting strings while picking. I changed the strings, put on bronze 0.13-0.56 ( don't know exactly what was on before but not bronze for sure), somehow better but still a lot of resonating harmonics. I looked up the saddle when I changed the strings, and it seemed to me a simple piece of plywood. Could this be the cause of the strange resonanting sound and poor sustain? Thanks for the video anyhow.

The sustain difference is simply the inherent nature of a Biscuit vs Spider cone system . Yes , resonators will inherently have a tendency to pick up sympathetic string vibrations . But yes also , we're hearing additional buzzing and rattling here . Set up of Resos is an arcane art , and the are more fiddly to get and keep just right . But with him tuned down an extra half step on an already floppy tuning , it could be simply increased amplitude of string movement striking the frets . Bridge Inserts are a bit more complex than just random plywood . Maple vs Maple w/ Ebony cap vs straight Ebony all have tonal differences . Plus , minor differences in shape , angle , and height all effect the tone and volume . But even premium bridge inserts are inexpensive , and proper ones are available from National Resophonic and Paul Beard . On that theme , an upgraded cone can make a big difference . National Resophonic , Quarterman , and Paul Beard are all top quality , with subtle tonal differences , are are about $80 . Reploge are a half step less in price , but still a big step up from OEM cones .

Are you certain this model is an RC-2?
@JeffStarr3 жыл бұрын
Yes. The label that is visible through the F hole lists the model as RC-2. I also verified this with Regal when I sent them the serial number.

whats the neck shape like?
@JeffStarr4 жыл бұрын
It’s sort of a generic C shape. Nothing too wild going on with it.

Good deal. I am still puzzled why Nationals cost so much: The Necks are CNC. The bodies are stamped and the Cone and cove are stamped. Back is soldered to the body. So why so much cost? Guitars sold for around $45 in the 30’s. That’s about $700 today. Not $4000. Thanks Regal.

The Gretsch resonators are also really nice for the money.

These resonator guitars are so pricey the ones I liked anyway maybe another one will pop up under $500 Regal RC 57 again
