Best thing about this is that it should almost eliminate brake glazing, because most of the time its caused by long, relaticely light braking during steep descents.

I think regen is a brilliant idea, and really should be incorporated in more e-bikes.

For sure.

I can't agree more about regen breaking. I'm on my second Ebike, which doesn't have regen, but my first Ebike was a Rad City 4 with a Direct Drive motor. The regen is the single feature I miss the most from that bike. Just being able to regen any time I'm going downhill or coming up to a corner, even if it didn't put any energy back into the battery, is something I don't want to be without now that I've put enough time into both. I plan on using Grin Technologies All-axel motors for Ebikes from here on out.

You did a good job of covering the real reason for regenerative braking on an e-bike. For years I have listened to people poo-poo the idea of regenerative braking because it doesn’t add much energy back to the battery. Well, maybe they should experience it and then comment.

After recently changing my front and rear brakes I definitely have regen on my bucket list.

I made an e-bike conversion 15 years ago using a complete set from China ($280 + freight, customs and VAT $150). It uses a standard throttle, like on an ICE motorcycle, but rather than regulating the power, it acts as a cruise control regulator. So, when I turn it down to zero, I get maximum regen, getting more than 30% back into the batteries. It also means that I have never run out of charge, all I have to do is pedal (yes, it's heavy now, a good workout) especially downhill and the charge goes up. I am surprised that e-bikes now do not use the same control. It has worked for 15 years now -- and I've never had to change my brake pads... 🙂

Only downside to regen is that you can’t mod another battery in parallel. Its fantastic for 72V builds

Added it to my grizzly and love it as well. Have it wired in to front brake lever and on a switch.

I think putting a second mirror to match the left hand side mirror would make that Beautiful Bike even nicer and a tab bit safer thx.

I have a mountain bike and a CYC mid drive motor (5000w) 72V battery installed, can I install a regen brake on my bike? Where did you purchase the regen brake system from?

It was on the bike that i purchased (Lyric Graffiti 2022 Model)

I mostly ride EUCs, so, that’s all we have. If the motor is beefy enough, it’ll do all the braking you need. My cheapy commuter scooter has it, with a separate ebrake control, it’s what I use for most braking (slow, anticipatory braking). Riding brake pads down a long hill seems like a waste when you could just be holding yourself from getting out of control speed wise while also recouping a bit of the charge using regen. Wish it were standard in most bikes.

I would like to have regen braking. I'm going up and down hills almost my whole ride so I think it would be very beneficial for me.

Absolutely.

Almost 30 in a 25mph zone, a bit risky with side streets. Nice video though 👍

My Segway x260 has it built in. You can use the app to set it, but i think I would prefer a thumb controller for it. Not sure how i could add that to another bike, but i am looking at an Ariel Grizzly and I would want that added for sure

Do we know if the Graffiti X is gonna have regen?
@oregonebikermark8953 Жыл бұрын
Not sure but hoping so. I believe it will be direct drive motor.
@ChristmasEve777 Жыл бұрын
I would be so scared to use it unless I was also covering the brakes. Just alternating between throttle and regen brake lever with my thumbs like you were in this video would worry me lol. Not sure if I would react quickly enough to reach for the levers in an emergency situation.

I'm used to doing it.

You know when I saw the title involving Regen Braking, I actually thought some comany was offering a Ebike with the kind of regen braking we see in electric cars that extend the battery range, (they do it in cars, why not E bikes?)

It can add up to 10% battery boost.

hey, i have been planning to add another battery on my engwe engine pro, but i have read online that it isnt a very good idea with bikes that have regen.i couldn't find any explanation though. does anybody know, whats the case here. can i add another battery in parralel 48v 16amp and 13amp with equaliser, or its not gonna work?

I like regen but not when it has a dedicated trigger or thumb throttle, they have to be integrated into the breaks leavers
