To clarify/correct a few points about the history because I'm silly and didn't fact-check: - the hairbrush was invented in the late-18th century, not the Victorian times... oops... - hair irons (curling irons and straighteners) were a product of the Victorian era, so too late for Regency hair, but they were around by the end of the century - the tiny little corkscrew curls wouldn't have been possible with pencils and straighteners, but could have been done with small pieces of fabric tied tightly to the head Sorry for the inaccuracies, but I hope you enjoyed anyway!

Okay, I don't care what anyone says. The 1995 bbc show is the best out off all the pride and prejudice movie/TV remakes. Literally the beginning music makes me want to cry and fills me with immense, unimaginable joy. Colin Firth is a such a good Darcy, its just freaking perfect and I love it so much, its my comfort show. Okay ill get off my soap box now thank you tehe

Your disdain for inaccuracy is beautiful 😂 the bbc version is my fav because of the historically accurate costumes and hair but also adherence to the book. I’m trying rag curls. There’s a channel called early American and they do 1820s looks. I’ve seen them curl up their hair and sort of crimp it with a small circular iron thing heated by the coals

why thank you!! the bbc version is absolutely beautiful, I completely agree, so accurate to the book and to the era, it SPEAKS to my SOUL oooh rag curls! do tell me how they go, I'm really intrigued... and thanks for the recommendation, I'll check them out! sounds interesting!!

Thank you for this mini-tutorial. I'm writing a story in which my heroine Charlotte is a young, middle-class woman working as a private secretary to an aristocrat at a large manor house in rural Yorkshire during the Regency Era. I'm needing to acquaint myself with women's fashions of the era, hairstyles, pastimes, etc. This was very helpful.

Big fan of the BBC series as well, so I LOVED that one. I hear you on thinking that she’s more of a farmer’s daughter in the Kieran Knightly version, I missed the class in that depiction. Also, found this tutorial in order to do my hair for a Pride and Prejudice ball later this month. CanNOT wait 👏 👏

Thank you for the trial and error hair nstyling. I’m excited to try this hairstyle because my temple hair is thinning and this would be a good way to protect that area while I treat my scalp. Your curls will be perfect if you set you hair overnight or spend 20-30 minutes under a bonnet dryer, which makes my curls tight and springy. Also you’re not wrong about the authenticity of the style of the ‘95 BBC Pride & Prejudice. The DVD version contains behind the scene videos where they explain how much effort they put into staying true to the regency aesthetic. Even to the point of wearing no make up which some of the actors had issues with. But it was so worth it and that version will always be my favorite one. Hands down.

@@hattywillmoth there's also a great Morgan Donner video from a while back about I think bronze age hair pins and fixings where she shows reproduction items in use. Out of your period, but fascinating. And her most recent insane history of hair video....err, you'll need a drink to recover from that one, but it's very interesting. I think you did a good job on this one btw. It's interesting to see what cut was required to get the fashionable shape and how odd some of them might look to our eyes when we are used to being able to change our style daily.

The Keira knightly P and P, they don’t really try you know. It was all image and no substance, a pretty film but not Austen. And you could brush your hair in the regency. Watch Abby Cox and Morgan Donner for the hair. And you have lovely hair, you’re very lucky

The amount of people claiming they “know” their historical accuracy and can’t comprehend that costume designers know FULL WELL what research is and still CHOOSE to design differently is far more offensive. They didn’t “have a go,” and get it wrong. 🤦♀️ They choose what is best for THEIR project. The goal isn’t always historical accuracy. It’s art, not a textbook. And the nonsense that Lizzie was perfectly structured according to societal rules all the time is just a joke. Humans don’t always follow the rules.

@hattywillmoth3 жыл бұрын
Awww thanks!! I used so many different snippets of music in this video, I honestly don't remember what all of them are. Each of the transition bits are taken from the series/film they come from, and then I used some generic copyright-free music for the Bridgerton section, and then some Strauss, some Dvorak, and some Tchaikovsky, I think... :/
