You really don't need a mac to make this kind of videos ;-) About muting the played notes, you can use the fingers of both hands. The strings I don't pluck I usually mute with the fingers of my left hand. When I play the A-string, I put the tip of my finger against the E-string, or put my middle finger on it. And by keeping your fingers flat, you keep the higher strings silent. Hope that works. Greetings

Hi there, I get a lot of requests indeed... I put the songs on my list, so when I have the time and opportunity maybe I'll do them. Keep on bassin', bless.

You rock. Thanks for posting these. Special request: Can you play UB40's "Please Don't Make Me Cry" and Bob's Positive Vibration.-Thanks

@DUBnDOOM Thanks. Yes, fams plays close to the neck, but robbie plays closer to the bridge to get better definition and attack... but he hits the strings very softly. Many different tricks from many players :-) My taste is somewhere in between.

This can also be used for Jacob Millers "run for cover" .... You make it look to easy :)
@ALIONBASS16 жыл бұрын
Thanks, it's a combination of a good bass, some EQ (boost lows around 80-100 Hz and cut highs and high-mids) and the way you hit the strings.

I always have both pickups full open. Mostly I use rounds, sometimes flats. Just cut the highs completely and boost some lows. The way you hit the strings with your fingers is important. With a three band active preamp you should be able to get a decent reggae tone. Succes!

@buswang Thanks, enjoy the bass

In order to get that crisp tone, position your treble knob somewhere between its half and full position (3/4 almost) and to get that lively bass kick, turn your tone (bass) knob near its half position. Crank your amp volume up (but not too high) and limit your bass volume to the minimal. Play near the neck rather than back down the bridge. If you'll play near the bridge you'll get more or less a crisper and more rock sounding feel that is absolutely not suitable for reggae...Hope this helps...

Wow! Your covers are awesome, please could you possibly do Ion Storm by Black Uhuru??? its got a great bass line i think :)
@ALIONBASS17 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks. I use the line out to plug straight in my mac. The bass sounds better with an amp, but that's too difficult for making the video's. Greetings

What kind of Yamaha do you have? For this sound, a bass with single-coils pu's is the best. In fact I made a few videos with a Yamaha BB Std (ready, aim, fire / dubbin' is a must / pass the kouchie / boderation). Nice sound too!

Just watched some Asham on yt! Pls send a link where I can purchase your CD. I'm also working on some of my own tracks (very amateur stuff!), but I got probably 60 + "beginnings" of songs which just basically capture a mood and nothing really else (for the moment). It's a mix of african/reggae/hip hop and maybe even a bit gospelish, but staying roots! Can u share yr email address, 'd like to send you one or two for yr opinion
