REGGAE ORGAN: Mixing Swing and Straight 8th Feels | Excerpt from Reggae Organ lesson 7

THE GROOVE CLASH! Often times musicians think that swing and straight 8th feels are completely separate, but many know that a seriously PHAT as hell, stank face groove can arise when you think of these two feels as being on a continuum. This means that you slide more towards a swing feel, but not all the way into it, or slide towards the straight feel but not all the way into it. In this lesson we experiment with the first phase of developing the ability to make this slide, and that is to play the swing and straight feels opposite each other. For example, to play a straight 8th bubble while the band is grooving in a swing 8th feel, and vice versa.
