Reggae star Smiley Culture death: calls for public inquiry

Hundreds of protesters have marched through London calling for a public inquiry into the death of reggae star Smiley Culture.

I live in the states and I can't believe through Wikipedia I only learned about 3 years ago about this man's death. It's a shame his death didn't get more attention abroad. He's a reggae icon. When I was a little visiting Jamaica during the summers, it was his name and Yellowman were the names we heard upon the rising craze of dancehall music. They are pioneers in this movement. Reading about his death, it seems quite suspicious. It's typical of police to want to claim suicide over crimes that they committed, especially if that victim is black. And worst of all, these police are protected by the the police department and even city officials. I hope his family, friends, and fans don't give up on trying to find out the truth and seeking justice for this guy. Rest in music to Smiley.

Verdicts and positions like these show very good reasons why black people (or people of African-Caribbean descent) in Britain cannot and should not trust the police. No verdict which brings their corrupt, biased and institutionally racist practices into question, especially those 'investigated' by the IPCC, is ever ruled in black people's favour.
