I’m 22, and I love my parents, I appreciate the housing, but I am so miserable because I’m not being stimulated. I want to grow, to learn what it means to fend for myself without having a backup. In the U.S depending on what city you live in moving out after highschool is nearly impossible unless you score a really good job The average rent in the U.S is 1,124$..... then factor in monthly food Car note and or insurance Gas/light/water Gas for car Phone bill Easily can be a monthly bill of 2,000$.... so just factoring that in, the majority of people are not living on their own, and the people who live on their own for the most part score cheap rentals, if you’re lucky, but having a roomate cuts rent in half

I’m 23 and I live at home with my mom. Living with your parents doesn’t make you “weak” or “privileged”. There’s no need to dump yourself in the deep end to prove that you’re strong. Focus on yourself and your finances & build habits while IN your moms home. Don’t let other people’s circumstances push you to make a poor financial decision. I know dozens of people that was eager to move out and wished they had stayed at home with their parents so they can invest more aggressively. If you’re reading this and you live with your parents, strategize your life REGARDLESS if you’re living alone or not. You’re not weak for having a safety net, you’re more prepared, because let’s face it, you’re going to experience the real world and get tougher with or without prepared financials. And for those that move out early due to poor circumstances or eagerness, I’m proud of you for making the jump but tread carefully on words you use around those that haven’t made the leap yet. Keep in mind there are people that stay with mom and pop maybe because mom and pop need them. Focus on yourself. Your finances. Your objectives & YOUR health❤️

Reggie, Your video has helped me understand the behavior of my son better. He moved out a few months ago at the age of 18. So many things we warned him about he is learning the hard way. As a Mom, it is painful to watch and not try to help fix it but his Dad has helped me understand that our son needs and wants to figure it out himself. Thank you for your words of wisdom to younger people. Now here is some advice from an older generation, If a person hasn’t had children yet , especially grown children, they probably won’t understand the importance of this. If you’re not already, Set aside a few minutes to call your parents at least once a week and tell them about what’s going in your life. It will mean alot to them.❤️😊🤗

I’m planning to move out to Uni in 4 days and I needed to hear this. Here’s what I picked up: 1. Have a solid plan before moving- packing and moving to the new place, meeting people and preparing for your course. 2. Discipline is key for studies, budgeting and financial independence to the point where you don’t rely on anyone. 3. The world is cruel and will test you physically and mentally and this will test who you are and that’s pretty scary. 4. Pushing through so many barriers by yourself makes the experience so fulfilling as you earn respect for yourself, your parents and your peers. Thank you so much! Hoping I can do this!

And I was scared! I learned hard lessons in dealing with men and it was during the crack era. Many of them were addicts and people were outrageous. I always stayed employed so that helped. I look back and realize 18 was very young. My daughter left at 19 and we barely talk. My 17 yo I put out because she’s so disrespectful fighting me. The police at my house all the time and ambulances cause she claims she’s gonna kill herself broke my heart, now I’m bejng charged with neglect. I am a girl of 32 years and single leaving with African parent😭 I m really going through trauma and blackmail from mum & how she hadly understand me, every day I feel I need to see a physchologist or someone to talk to that can understand me, worst of all is how my married siblings come home and fight me why I m still not married & why I have no shame still single in my parent house maybe cos I like to care toomuch for my mum & I get worried who will take proper care of her and daddy the way I want it, I have a good job and right now I feel I should move out and have my peace, when it's time to get married I will let them know, I am in pains & hurt ..I don't even like the part my mum feel my married sisters are always right when we have any argument jst bCOs they have kids and married they treat them like they are more responsible🙈 I need to go pay for a house soon and I need advice on how to nicely & respectfully break the news to them without been offensive🤦🤔

Aye, you jus lived a regular experienced but privileged life. Atleast you had a father, and that gives you a more head start in life than everyone who only had one parent present and struggling financially. When you learn all these “life lessons” at a young age of 7,10,11 or even younger, you learn quick how hard life could be when your suppose to jus be a kid.
@ReggieBryant Жыл бұрын
I hear you, but the purpose of this video is to teach people how to move out of their parent’s house and what those benefits look like. Assuming I had a privileged life doesn’t have much to do with the topic of the video at all. Besides, I never said any of this would be easy

I care more about getting respect (and even praise) from society! I think that's harder, at least from my experience.
