Without a SAG nor BAFTA nomination, Regina King still pulled it off. Congratulations to you my dear and YES God is good all the time ❤️🙏📿 Regina won....Get over it guys. She was favored to win
@musicaltheatergeek795 жыл бұрын
She was favored to win the Oscar, because there were no black winners last year (despite black nominees) and Twitter complained. This year, the Oscars made sure there was a black winner or two. After 2016 and the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, there has been a radical shift in tone and now the nominated movies/performances are done so more for political reasons than meritorious ones. As you pointed out, Regina missed out on nominations at BAFTA and SAG, two very important precursors! (The other one being the Golden Globe.) It is very telling that she missed out on BAFTA/SAG and still won Oscar. When that happened to Sylvester Stallone a few years ago for "Creed" (like Regina, he also won GG but didn't get BAFTA/SAG nods) he went home Oscar-less.
@celticdw19835 жыл бұрын
@@musicaltheatergeek79 that's a very stupid reason. She was the critics favorite and I'm not talking about just a Critics choice Awards. Politics probably could have played a reason in that but she did put in a great performance in that movie.
@musicaltheatergeek795 жыл бұрын
Please! Critics are the worst! They always check where the wind is blowing lest they offend someone. In this political climate, don't expect honest reviews from critics. Lately, too many movies (and Broadway shows, for that matter) are given a pass or even a rave if they are about empowered women or some social cause. Nothing wrong with those types of movies, but they are not being fairly critiqued. Meanwhile, a recent movie like *The Highwaymen* (which has been embraced by viewers and impartial critics) is shred to bits by critics, because it doesn't feature anything like that. That said, you're entitled to your opinion, as am I. After all, it's all subjective in the end. But there is a growing consensus that Regina's win was more about these tumultuous times and her esteemed reputation than the actual performance, which many consider to be pretty meh -- especially when compared to the other nominees. It's not like it was a weak field and she was the default winner.

*Celtic DW* Okay, I see I'm wasting my time. Nearly 3 minutes into this video before she gets announced, none of the other acting awards that got uploaded today had a 'skit' included. I love Regina King.

I just love how this woman is so talented. I have seen her on movies throughout the years, and even before, I always admire her as an actress and as a human being.

Well deserved. Now will someone PLEASE give this woman a STAR ON THE WALK OF FAME too. There are so many folks who I see getting one lately, who really DON'T deserve it, but she DOES.

So sad seeing Regina’s son smiling, knowing he was in immense pain. Really thinking about this incredible woman…🥺 Can’t wait for Regina to win her EGOT (along with Viola Davis who needs that Grammy)… a Tony for a future Broadway performance and a Grammy for the audiobook of her future memoir. LOVE THIS WOMAN!
