Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, also known as Asia Songbird, a title given to her by the Asian press after she won the Asia Pacific singing contest back in the 80s, plus among other titles she gained for the past 30+ years being active in the industry and still relevant. She is the reason why there are a lot of belters here in the Philippines. Idol of Idols. Have you noticed Stell taking the upper note instead of Regine? Even the lady was stunned and said right after that Stell's voice was very high. Btw, Regine Velasquez is now 53 years old and probably the most celebrated singer in the country. Her voice is one of a kind during her younger days (won several international singing competitions) and has collaborated with international singers during her time. Stell is being teased as the ASIA'S SONG BIRDIE in reference to Regine's monicker being ASIA'S SONG BIRD coz she's one of Stell's idols (also his mom's idol). There was a fancam were Stell was all giddy and giggling like a kid that he actually squealed, almost like a whistle tone. He does that when he gets too excited. 😅 Btw, a little trivia. Way back then, Regine was so good and her belting was being pitted against Mariah's that the latter insulted her by saying "OH, SO THE MONKEY CAN SING!"

Mariah herself is half black and it's unlikely for her to say anything like that, having slurs thrown in her direction before. spot on with your comments about regine's style. in the past, she was quite the belty diva. but because she was a part of a tv network's weekly concert/variety show, she damaged her voice. i think it took her a couple of years' rest and a change of network to get her voice back. so now, she's a lot more careful when and where to put the belts in. ahhahah not all of us can sing! i can't. i have no musical talent whatsoever.

This is not their only performance with her. She appeared with them at Areneta for last years homecoming concert after they did their first world tour. There are videos of that performance as well. She praised them in the concert as talented new performers. Apparently there is something in the works with Sara Geronimo as well. Stay tuned! I’d recommend Regine Velasquez’ vid of A Piece of Sky cover (Barbara Streisand song from Yentl). Pick the one where Regine is in a flesh-colored / nude-colored, simple mermaid (?) gown.
