She just graduated from being a weekly champion ( 8 weeks) and won the grand finals - Battle of Champions - the same with Sarah G. and Jona, that is why “Grand Champion”. Regine then won the Asia-Pacific Singing Contest. Ovela, I think the Philippines is patriarchal in some ways not matriarchal but equality does exist and i'm saying this purely because our system, our laws and everything that surrounds our modern society is based on the constitution of the United States Of America like the 3 branch of government and its laws and we inherited it from them and one could argue that the US constitution are created by patriarchy. We did manage to elect two female President in 2 different elections before the US, First in 86 and the second one is on 2001-10. Equality when it comes workplace and politics are pretty equal to both genders, we have females senators, congresswoman, female mayor, female governor, we have females in all many different branches of the government but the numbers of men in politics are high compared to women and when it comes to child custody laws its favorable to women/mothers. Ps. So yeah, we are not like the some Middle Eastern countries who treats women as if they are things that you own. Women here have voices and women here can be quite scary if you ask me esp. if they become your GF. LOL

There's definitely traditional views on the role of men and women that are followed and honoured in the Philippines. Like how the man is supposed to provide for the family while the woman takes care of them. But the idea of men and women being equal is also greatly embraced. In fact, in Asia, I think Philippines is one of the countries that has greatly progressed in terms of equality between men and women. Rather than gender, seniority is more honoured. Especially in certain professions. Regine is put in the pedestal because of how long she has been in the industry and all the achievements she got through out her career. During her prime years, she truly was an icon and I think she has finally found her rightful place when she moved networks.
