Regional-residual separation in the context of aeromagnetic data is a data processing technique used to separate the observed magnetic field into two main components: the regional component and the residual component. The separation is commonly employed to distinguish and isolate geological information of interest from background magnetic variations caused by regional geological structures and other sources. The process of regional-residual separation involves mathematical techniques, such as filtering or mathematical modeling, to extract the residual component from the observed magnetic data. Once separated, the residual component can be analyzed and interpreted to identify and locate geological features of interest, such as ore bodies, faults, or geological boundaries.
Regional-Residual separation is a critical step in the interpretation of aeromagnetic data for geological and mineral exploration purposes, as it helps geoscientists focus on the smaller-scale anomalies that may indicate valuable geological resources. This tutorial has implemented the “Polynomial method”, also known as polynomial trend surface analysis or polynomial regression. The Polynomial method is a mathematical technique which involves fitting a polynomial equation to the aeromagnetic data to describe and visualize the trend or surface within the data.

Hello Dr. thank you for your educative videos. Please can you make another covering the filters under the "Grid and Image" tool, like the 3x3 convolution, 5x5 symmetric convolution, 7x7 symmetric convolution, 9x9 symmetric convolution, vertical derivative convolution and more. I seriously need to learn how to use those filters. Thank you once again...
