Regret (Video Excerpt)

Regret is a piece for piano and erhu. Erhu is a two-stringed bowed musical instrument that has a history of 1000 years. It is also called the Chinese violin for its sensitivity and evocative sound. This piece uses erhu’s melancholic tone and capacity of holding long notes to express deep remorse and hopelessness. The erhu’s lingering turn from crescendo to diminuendo on the final note closes the music at a disheartened ending of pleading and resignation.
