I get buyer’s remorse when I buy a movie I remember liking so much back in the 80’s or 90’s but when I watch it again, it feels so dated that I just can’t possibly enjoy it the same way I did before. That seems to happen a lot with criterion releases of older movies. Recently they released the Albert Brooks film Mother which I remember absolutely loving when it came out. When I popped it in to rewatch last month I was hit with the fact that a good 70% of the humor didn’t work and some jokes aged very poorly. Overall I tried to enjoy it still for the sake of nostalgia and the remaining 30% of the stuff that still works but dang I feel like I wasted money on that purchase because I don’t think I’ll be watching it again any time soon.

Some films just don’t hit like they did the first time which is another disappointment when you’ve gotten yourself a physical copy.

Ohhh I love that Imprint Warriors boxset. As an 80s kid, I spent many a time watching The Warriors on a rented VHS or even a VHS taped off TV by a mate. I've watched it in so many sub-par qualities that the Imprint bluray is visually astounding to me. I felt no need to get the 4k. All I needed was that beautiful theatrical cut bluray in the Imprint set. But yeah, as you grow your tastes expand and you broaden your horizons. Sometimes it's all about mood, too. I've attempted to watch a movie before and got bored and distracted and didn't even finish it, only to try again months later and been blown away by how good the movie was

I regret buying 2 copies of the same movie cause sometimes I buy the single disc at wal-mart or Amazon but if and when I find a 3 or 4 movie boxset or. 6 I’ll just give the single copie to a friend
@CollectorCreations2 ай бұрын
That’s fair, especially if the single disc is identical to the what you get in the multi disc set. It’s nice that you give the spare to a friend

The marketing makes it very difficult to not buy everything that you have even a remote interest in. They will say "This is limited edition, only 2,000 copies will be made" which triggers a primal response that you must buy it... I'm able to resist this more now, but it got me in the past several times. Like that Paramount release of Election looks great, but I've never seen the film, so I passed on it. Same with that massive Never Ending Story set--I love that film but I don't need it that badly. Hopefully they release just a standard 4K of it eventually. Hard disagree on that Wild Things release though--that one was definitely worth it for me! P.S. I think it would help your videos a bit if you gave us some visual aids and held up the movies you are talking about so we can see them. Cheers! :)

Election is a great film, I’d recommend it although it depends if you’d prefer the Criterion or the Paramount edition. I also didn’t get the NES set cause I’ve never seen the film and don’t want to spend that much on it. However I would like a standard 4K set if that ever comes out. I still don’t care for having bought Wild Things but I would much prefer a standard 4K release over the deluxe version I have. And in terms of visual aids, yeah I should have. I usually do but I just didn’t think to at the time

Even if it's watching a bootleg online, you need to see Dead Alive/Braindead, as well as Peter Jackson's Bad Taste if you haven't seen that. You should also see Body Melt. These are all easily accessible online, which is always justified if they're not commercially available to you. You gotta watch the New Zealand stuff, those are your people, that's your cultural heritage you need to experience. Also what's not to like about Wild Things, Neve Campbell and Denise Richards nude....I own Death Warmed Up and I like it, it's a pretty wacky and unique mad scientist type film.

I’m from Australia….. not New Zealand

Also I have Body Melt (which is Australian). And Wild Things isn’t a bad film I just didn’t need to spend so much on the deluxe version (and honestly why else do you think I bought the 4K?). I need to revisit Death Warmed up but not anytime soon

That's too bad people overhyped Zombie for you the first time. I think I went in fairly blind and first saw it on VHS. The 4k does look great, it's a film I've never loved or thought it was great. I find the overall atmosphere cool but outside of the last 25 minutes it's not a very engaging film for me, though I've never liked most of Fulci's stuff that much. I think Gates Of Hell is a better film and maybe his best.

Zombi isn’t my favourite Fulci, even on rewatch but I’ve learned to appreciate it. I do prefer a lot of his other films over Zombi though
