I suggested this one a while back. It's a great one because Scalabrine was never more than a reserve his entire career, but even against younger and vastly more athletic non-NBA challengers he shows the difference in body type and skills needed to even be the last man off the bench in the NBA is enormous.

Was hilarious when he got traded to my Celtics after his time with the Nets. For those 6 seasons every time he touched the ball, no matter where on the court, the Celtics fans would all yell in unison "Shoot it Scal!" He jacked up so many bad shots over the years and no1 got mad but Doc...Scal is just too funny wit a huge personality. A great locker room and glue guy for team chemistry. My guess the reason he played so long despite being one of the worst NBA players of all-time.

I'm flying back the previous Labor Day weekend to go to the White Mountains in NH for a family get together, but heading back to FL that following Monday. Once I finish renovations (hopefully in Oct.) the house will go up for sale and I am back to Boston. I would def meet up at some point tho. I usually come to NY a few times a year to see my cousin in Chelsea-Manhattan I know I have an account with Discord, just have not used it in forever. I will log in sometime soon and get my info. I used to join friend's rooms when gaming from time to time, but it's been a while and don't remember my account offhand. My name is BEAN but there is also some 4 or 5 digit number assigned to everyone as well. I hope you have fun if you come to town, and sucks I won't be back till after, but as a warning the orange line is shut down for maintenance (1/4 the trains in the city) thru September. It's a very walkable city as you know, but just a heads up if you planned to train hop around to save time. If you're driving I would suggest finding paid parking in Chelsea, MA or East Boston (dirt cheap airport lots) and taking a shuttle into town (5-10min ride depending on traffic) because trying to park anywhere else is close to impossible.

I've played a former football player once and mind you i was pretty good in high school and the pace and speed they play at is just amazing to see on field, how fast they pass it and are able to control a bullet pass is amazing. Also he was skinny but on field he was The Rock with his physicality

I was one of the best players in my area coming out of high school and went on to play at a small college - this isn’t a “humble brag”, I only say that to say this - we used to play regularly at my local rec center in a large city in FL (sorry, I don’t feel comfortable saying exactly where) but there was a guy who at the time was late 40’s that had played professionally who played quite regularly with us... it made me a better player but as was said in the video, there’s levels to this shit and sometimes you need that perspective. He would absolutely drag us young bucks while barely breaking a sweat. I asked him one day about what he did in terms of training when he was coming up (I was 16 or so at the time) and he said “You just have to remember, any moment you’re not training - somebody else is - and when you meet that person on the court it will show.” That always stuck with me because it can be applied to almost anything in life on a broader scale.

I remember a while ago Tom Brady’s either current wife or ex was interviewed on a late night show and she mentioned how she kept hearing the commentators say how slow he was. So she challenged him to a race and he won easily. She didn’t realize they meant he was slow compared to other NFL players not the general population. The difference from average Joe to Professional athlete can be staggering.

When I was doing basic training in the army, the second-fastest guy in our company (couple of hundred guys) was a 6'3", 265lb. defensive end out of the University of Virginia who had been drafted by the (then) Baltimore colts. He explained to me that at the upper levels, football wasn't really about size or strength as much as it was about speed and quickness. Same for basketball.

Cool to see Jordan Poole here, one of the guys who challenged Fred VanVleet. Narrator mentioned he’s a contributor now for the Warriors, but he’s blown up since then. Was a key player on last years championship Warriors team, and a few weeks ago just signed a 4 year 140 million dollar contract. Oh, and he’s unfortunately now most famous probably for being punched in the face by his own teammate Draymond Green a few weeks ago. Luckily, he got that huge contract right after and the incident hasn’t seemed to affect his play.

Years ago, when I was a dumb kid, a former NBA benchwarmer from the 1970's would play with us. An old man. And he scorched everybody, scored at will, took the ball away when he wanted to, got the rebound when he wanted to, made crazy passes and made it look easy. Totally crazy having grandpa out schooling the young bucks.

He's a former bench player for the Boston Celtics and played limited minutes. The fact that people that play basketball think they can beat a bench player is beyond me, they didn't get to the NBA level for no reason, this guy has serious skills. BTW - I'm from Boston and this guy will crush any non-NBA citizen in a contest. People think to highly of themselves when it comes to sport - period.

My story: back around 2002 I played a pickup game with a guy who TRIED OUT for the Indiana Pacers back in the mid-80s. He didn't even make the team. I was a high school hooper and a track athlete. And this guy fucking SMOKED us. You think you see guys who are quick on the court, then you see what REAL speed looks like. The difference between a _good_ basketball player and an _average_ NBA player is about the same as the difference between the guy with the _ER_ Box set at home and a practicing Neurosurgeon. Calling it "night and day" doesn't quite do it justice.

When I was home one summer from college, I played Division 1. I was shorter then most of the high school kids at a community center court and they wanted to do a 3v3. I was getting buckets easily. Then the tallest kid and only black kid there switched to guard me and it made zero difference. But I still would get smashed by Brian. Levels in where you are in life in sports does really matter for the most part. Now I would probably get smashed by high school kids cause I haven't played basketball in over a decade now and way out of shape lol.

The worst professional is still absolutely miles ahead of 99% of anyone who makes a comment about their abilities and thinks they can do it. Yes, there are exceptions, you can find that 18-22 year old who's likely going to get drafted/signed and is above average in their progression and physicals that could hang. There are aspects to certain sports in which someone who's solid can do well. I could catch a professional baseball game and confidently call a game and make throws on steals and have a shot (well when I was playing) I can block and frame very well. I'd stand literally no chance hitting, it would take a TON of time to confidently step into that box and see that stuff day in and day out before I was consistent in even making contact and I was decent hitter. Football maybe skill position players and above average build players can hang. Basketball you could likely get up a shot or 2 if you absolutely baffled the man defending you but you have to be PERFECT, they don't because they are already just better then you.

Fucking crazy I played basketball outside of school on a Cort and I can not hit a layup even after years of practice I can't do it and they r just hitting them from unreal possession I'm good at 3s and being 5'4 I was Amazing at point guard I practiced jumping a lot helped so much but I practiced layups the same amount but still haven't gotten anything from it in the hoop
