Have many other bags.. but bought an REI backpack about 15+ years ago with intention of it being disposable.. was going to replace when I wore it out. It became Disney bag when we had kids, beach & baseball bag as boys got older. It still friggin works but it just stinks a bit from being abused.

Thank you for this informational video. I have been looking for more affordable price options in ruck sacks. After watching your excellent review I decided to purchase the REI 40 L version. The sale price this week was $104(regular price $140). I was concerned about the inner pocket holding a ruck plate. I purchased a neoprene 13" notebook /laptop sleeve($12) and inserted my 15 lb ruck plate placed in neoprene sleeve in the inner pocket. It seemed to hang lower but felt secure on the 40L bag and much better than using towels and bubble wrap to prop my loose weight plates. As I am new to rucking and breaking into hiking/walking with weight I started with 15 lb but after todays ruck feel I can easily hold a 20 lb in the REI 40L. Hopefully It holds. Like all the pockets and travel options. Thanks again for your great videos that are inspirational for me.

16:03 You lost me here. I guess I'll check some other bags out. Need a pack that can handle rucking daily. Goruck is just so expensive for a backpack. Great review though!!

Thanks for watching! I just have durability concerns for the interior design for ruck plates. Sandbags would be fine

I think they’re into something here with some material and organizational upgrades it would be a perfect.

just ordered the 28 ltr for a day hiking back pack. i think it will be a good size for that. not too much weight so the straps should be fine im hoping.

Does anyone know if the 40L is allowable as a carry on as it looks really big.
@JBOutside1 Жыл бұрын
24 x 13 x 10 inches are the listed dimensions so not technically but if it’s not fully loaded it would be ok. Depends on the airline too.

Great info! Thank you. I just bought my first 40L ruckpack. I had no idea about a few of the features. Do you happen to have a link to a cord I could get for the outside? Not sure what my options are. And do you know if this 40L will fit under a plane seat? We are heading to Tahiti soon. I also need to find good strong lightweight carriers for my insta 360x3 and go pro 12 equipment to fit in it. Open to suggestions.
@JBOutside1 Жыл бұрын
Any sort of "paracord" will work just fine. You can but it on Amazon or at a local craft store pretty cheap. As for under the seat it's listed as 25" tall and so I don't think it would be a great under the seat option. As for the action cameras I'd try an EVERGOODS CAP2 for those. And really and tech pouch will work.

Can you put a weight plate in this?
@JBOutside12 жыл бұрын
Yes. That’s what I did but it’s not secured and I don’t think that internal pocket will last long.

I have a REI 34 litre that has an expansion zipper to make it larger. I've had it for 6 or so years, it doesn't seem cheaply made at all, only issue is that I have worn a small hole near the top zipper area from grabbing it the wrong way while packed with heavy weight through the years. Do you know if REI has a lifetime warranty on their backpacks? This backpack is designed very well, all the orginization pockets are perfect it even has a kangaroo extra quick stash pouch on the outer. My favorite day pack is my evergoods 22L but I still really like and want to repair the REI.
@JBOutside1 Жыл бұрын
REI won't repair that one...best case scenario they give you a newer version of that one

REI is good at _lightweight_ gear. GoRuck is nice but they're not concerned a out girth and heft. REI is airy and light.

I'm currently carrying 40+ pounds of plates in my bags. Do you think the REI 28L and 40L can carry 40+?
@JBOutside12 жыл бұрын
Plates? Yes, but not for long. Wouldn’t recommend based on the material. A sandbag might be better
@stanlee36192 жыл бұрын
@@JBOutside1 I currently wrap my plates in bath towels when I ruck so there's no direct contact. Even though I'm an REI member and can return in a year, I still don't want to risk having a bag burst when I'm a few miles from home. I may go with something more heavy duty for ease of mind. Thanks!

Really liking what I see on the 40. Been looking for a good one bag travel backpack, and the GR2 seems a bit overkill. The non-removable hip belts are my only hesitation. I may consider permanently removing them…
@JBOutside12 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. It’s a great option. You should get it at this price and see how it works out. The flap cover works nice enough though.

To answer your question... you spend more to support American manufacturing, to support small/medium-sized business, to not support a brand that has lost its focus.
