Your first design, the one with the bombs, is similar to an Orion Drive. An Orion Drive was a study conducted by USAF DARPA and NASA to identity the efficacy of a large craft propelled by the force of a series of explosions from atomic bombs. Just wanted to inform ya.

We have this in KSP with KAL-1000 Controllers and fireworks. I used it to make a passenger craft and it worked very well got to the north pole in 13 mins.

Exploding bombs to propel a rocket used to be a thing in real life. Except they used nuclear bombs and it was really fast. They cancelled the experiment because it was bad for the atmosphere. It was called project orion

Ah yes, I made a multi-stage rocket that was powered by steam, with the first stage being powered by endless rockets. I also used alti-meters to make it entirely automatic, so I just had to hit "V" to start the rocket, and it would go up to the limit on its own, separating every stage with no input

Using watercannons would have been much more effective as there's no random delay before it shoots and provides a smooth thrust. The only downside is that you have to increase its power over the vanilla threshold.

Video idea: I think it would be really interesting to see a cannon gun that works like a real gun that uses springs and suspension and pistons to fire and eject the used cannons. I think a sort of tube fed sort of design would be cool with possibly a pump-action to load it into the chamber. Maybe even a recoil system for when the cannon explodes, it will push a slide back and eject the round and load a new one?

If you use a torch or flamethrower to heat up a water cannon, it produces steam, which will propel any object it's attached to

One of the things you could have done with the bombs is had a feeder at the top attached to winches or springs constantly applying pressure, the same way a magazine applies pressure to the bullets, pushing them into the gun by using a spring. Using that, the bombs wouldn't bounce upwards when propelled upwards, and it would therefore hopefully not explode.

You should try to build a bridge and drive a car across a gap using the planks in Teardown. I've been able to do it myself, but I don't think that I could get it to work without the bridge breaking a little. I think it would be a neat challenge.

i recently tried to make a machine that walked with the uh expanding blocks and held on using grabbers to try to beat the first valfross level. it worked in the creative level but slid way too much in the actual level i was trying to beat. i’m curious to see if you could get something working.

You should make another gun maybe in the form of an assault rifle, but just use cannons as the rounds. A cannon - or ''round''- is loaded into the camber from the magazine, fires the cannonball, and then ejects the empty cannon - or ''shell'' - and chambers another round, etc. etc.
