The Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment Fall 2023 Seminar Series
University of Kansas, Department of Psychology
Seminar Speaker: Dr. Mark Fillmore, Professor & University Research Professor from the University of Kentucky
Seminar Description: Dr. Fillmore examines how acute rewarding and disinhibiting effects of alcohol in young adults contribute to its abuse potential. Evidence is presented from laboratory studies that tests effects of controlled doses of alcohol to determine how alcohol sensitivity predicts binge drinking and other hazardous behaviors. Findings are extended to certain at-risk populations, including young adults with ADHD and DUI offenders. Finally, recent evidence for the role of menstrual cycle phase on alcohol sensitivity will be discussed as a potential factor in at-risk drinking among women.
Recorded on October 27, 2023, 11:30 AM CST
