A few comments: 1. Your suspension crafting is impressive!; 2) So is that big wire wheel tool and Evaporust; 3) I hope you are torquing your suspension and frame fasteners to spec; and finally: 4) Don't take offense at the critics (6:30). Take it in stride and respond like a pro, if a response is necessary. I am looking forward to seeing this one on the road!

Great video as usual Ben! Thanks for being so consistent. Just a couple things, this is just my perspective, you could invest in a portable sandblaster for your shop. I think this would save you a ton of time and ultimately money. The other option is if you go to a well-stocked woodworking store, they should have a product they’re called Rust Free. It comes in a spray bottle. It does a bang up job on getting rust out. You use a burgundy type pad to work it and wipe it off with a clean shop towel. Depending on how bad the rust is, it may just take one application or two. It works great on cast iron table saw tops, I can attest to that 100%.

Years ago I saw an old school guy chop the roof off a '32 and at the C pillar, he scooped out a glob of lead out of the bucket and slopped it on the joint. Wiped it down and a heat proof rag and DONE. No body filler required. It was literally smooth as the surrounding body. Same thing when I toured the GM plant in Oshawa....I think they were building caprice classics and the roof was tacked in place and there was a guy at each corner, slapped on some lead with a spatula, wiped it down and off to primer dip then paint. I guess after doing it 5000 times you got the hang of it lol

In watching you work over the last few episodes as an Industrial Engineer, I am concerned with the lack of filtration and dust collection in the shop and the fact that you don't a respirator to protect yourself. You don't want to end up with lung disease later in life. I do like the retromod your are doing to the car. It is a coupe I would loose the Shelby stripes and might do something different. Shelby never built a coupe only a few convertibles. I think you are heading in the right direction with the car.

screw the haters, coming along great! even thought the thick boi fastback was shaping up. lead is a great body filler and most of the classic custom guys used it all the time. It is poisonous, heavy and why they called them leadsleds. Would really like to see you do some easy mods with the roof replacement. Flush mounting the widows with epoxied edging to protect the glass ditching the chrome trim and removing the drip rail completely seam welding the roof on. Wont need to replace that seam sealant that normally causes rust. Only going to learn by doing it and already a great tech.

Technical speak here... Your Mustang is Unibody chassis. They other type of Chassis of the time would be Body on Frame design. You are welding in Subframe connectors to join and stiffen the chassis so the car doesn't twist like a pretzel when you unleash all the extra ponies that will be living under the hood soon, Subframe connectors have been around as long as hotrods have been around.

Best way to get lead out is to heat it up really hot and it will start melting out. That stuff your are getting out in the drip rail is seam sealer you have to put it back if not water will go up inside the crack also keeps the drip rail from rusting out on the car.

Do a fastback conversion, you have the roof and trunk.
@bretjjjohnson79422 жыл бұрын
Sorry for how long this is btw 🤣🤣😆😆. To make his car a fastback. Its not as simple, as replacing the quarters and roof. Every piece of metal from the windshield post back. Gets cut off unbolted and thrown away. After stripping the car to convert to a fastback. The only original metal left is a flat floorpane and the windshield post forward. All of the factory interior also gets changed. Because the cars original won't fit anymore and doesn't interchange between the two different body styles. When you see his other mustang. The body you see minus the trunk and doors. Thats the fastback conversion kit. You have to buy to do it. The kit starts at $10,000 and go up. That doesn't include all the interior, the bumpers, all the trim, any exterior pieces, the front body panels, the doors, trunk, all the glass. Other than the windshield. All of that is sold separate in there own different kits. It's not as easy as a roof and quarters.
