Listen, I am a HUGE Bocephus fan. By extension, I have grown to be a big III fan. With Bocephus, it was about the attitude as well as the music, and I see some of that in III too. I left the subject of this video out because, as an honest man I have to say that Sr.s music is from a time before mine and is therefore of a style that I don't really understand. I respect it but, as a Gen Xer, I would not even know who Sr. is if not for his son and his grandson. I am leading to a point here. I gave my reasons for respecting Sr., while admitting that I don't choose to listen to him often. So I have to ask: doesn't the Grand Ole Opry have similar rights when it comes to this man? Well, they do. So why waste our time trying to tell them who they should admit and who they shouldn't. Isn't it easier, and more manly to simply make the decision regarding whether or not we choose to hear the product they are choosing to put forth? If they want that wholesome, family, jug band family image then...whatever. If Sr., because of his drinking, did not fit the image they want to put forth then...whatever. If I, as a fan, choose to never buy a ticket because I don't care about the image the Opry puts forth then...also...whatever. I am just as content with them doing their thing, while I kick back and listen top all of the people III sang about in "country heroes." Now, if they are using his image, then there is the fight you should be fighting. I am sure the family can legally stop them from doing that, if they want to. I just don't understand why anyone cares what the Opry thinks, and I sure don't get why so many are trying to argue them into doing anything hey don't want to do. Does anyone believe that Sr will sell a single extra record, if the Opry let him back in? I bet you that, wherever he is, he is looking down at the legend he has become and he doesn't give a damn what the Opry thinks anymore either. He is laughing at them.
