Metallica said to play the song backwards or upside down. Most artists are afraid to do so, but The Warning is fearless.

Metallica asked 53 artists to do a song from their Black album. They put these covers on their Blackless album (30 year anniversary of The Black Album) for charity. Alessia Cara (Canadian pop singer) teamed up with The Warning to do *Enter Sandman.* Metallica told all the artists they could do anything they want with their song. *WITH ONE STIPULATION. THEY COULDN'T CHANGE THE LYRICS.* *Fun Fact:* The Warning did play *THE RIFF* throughout the song. They played it at half time. They played the riff at regular tempo at the end.

The girls have now done at least 5 versions of this song. In Oct. they did 3 high production shows where they had a string section from a symphony on stage backing them on stage on this and a couple other songs.

They were asked by Metallica to do their take on Enter Sandman, they were told they can do whatever they want but don't change the lyrics. The crazy thing is they were given just over a week to do it and they had to collaborate with a pop singer over zoom due to the pandemic. No pressure, just re-imagine a classic song and do it with someone you have never even met. They never cease to amaze!

DPA/TW and Alessia Cara certainly understood the assignment! Alessia Cara is a Grammy winning Canadian Pop and R&B singer... they had 10 days to rip this rendition of *Enter Sandman* from the ether and make it a darker, more eerie, and a more haunting lullaby than the original metal version... this was done because they, and many other artists from numerous genres, were invited by Metallica to take one of the songs from the original "Black" album, keep the lyrics and change it up how ever you like... play it backwards, upside down, whatever... this was all for the 30th anniversary of the "Black" album... all the submissions from 50someodd artists were put on the 2021 "The Metallica Blacklist" album... the proceeds from the album sales are split 50/50 with half going to Metallica's "All Within My Hands Foundation" and the other half being donated to a charity of the participating artists' choice. in the OMV, Dany and Alessia share the lead vocals until they are in the three doorways when Dany takes over and Alessia does more of the background oooohs and aaaahs... the version they play in concert has Dany doing the vocals with a backing track of Alessia's ohhhs and ahhhs... of course Ale and Pau join in with their angelic harmonies in both... this is a fantastic reimagining of the iconic original... this 60+ year old rocker loves both versions of *Enter Sandman* but this one by TW and Alessia gets more airtime these days 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

I kept myself away from music for almost 20 years because most of it had gone to 💩 then I came across these three sisters and from Mexico no less (me being Mexican) dove into the rabbit hole and I was done. So happy to listen to quality lyrics and music and can't get enough. Yes I've discovered other decent bands I also like but my favorite of all time is The Warning. Keep in mind that I lived in the States for 25 years and went to many festivals and concerts throughout the 90s and after experiencing The Warning live I have to say they are by far a better band than most I witnessed live!

@davejohnston219711 ай бұрын
I'm glad you got to this one. It's a serious challenge to the original for which is better. I only have one thing I would change here. The last "take my hand" should've been "grain of sand". Either way, this goes down in the cover world as top tier, Johnny Cash "Hurt", and Pearl Jam "Crazy Mary" level stuff. I'd rather hear the cover.
@justinatest945611 ай бұрын
So many great songs to go man, you really are just getting started.
@R2robot11 ай бұрын
Well, Lars told them to do something different and not just a straight cover, so they literally turned it upside down and backwards. Starting with "take my hand' and ending with the iconic riff instead of the other way around. Dany single picking notes in the first verse, power chords in the 2nd.. building.. and the super soft dynamics of the lullaby... and the harmonies!!! I grew up with Metallica and have seen them live several times and I absolutely love this version. It's pure genius.

I don't know how many reactions I've seen from that version, but I don't remember anyone saying where's the solo. This version doesn't need a solo. A good song doesn't need a solo, a good solo needs a good song.
@gerstelb6 ай бұрын
I don’t think I’ve ever really seen a solo from The Warning. It might be a conscious (or unconscious) choice on the part of the sisters to keep the balance between them, and avoid the kind of drama and jealousy that often tears bands (and even especially family bands) apart. They each have their roles and they play them, but notably while Dany is mostly the lead vocalist, either Pau or even Ale has stepped in when she was feeling off or needed to rest her voice.
@Oldmarty6 ай бұрын
@@gerstelb They don't have such long solos in their own songs. Short ones from Danny are sometimes included. Danny once said that she prefers riffs to solos. Pau once said that solos wouldn't be a problem if they weren't too long. Nod of the head from Ale. But the songs are written in such a way that a solo usually doesn't fit into the structure of the song. It would just be an extension of the song. But maybe the whole thing will change after the collaboration with Band Maid.

These young ladies are true rock stars. They made this their own. Now there's nothing wrong with doing a straight cover, or adding a little bit to it. Def Leppard's cover if "No Matter What", Aerosmith and Godsmack's "Come Together" and Guns and Roses " Live and Let Die" are all great covers. Now this, Jimi Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" and Disturbed's "Sound of Silence" and "Land of Confusion" are taken to the next level.

This one is TW true tribute to "Enter Sandman" not a cover. They did a cover version of this song and it is the one that put The Warning on the YT map. They did it when they were kids, Dany 14, Pau 12 and Ale 9. They've also done another great cover of a Metallica song: "Atlas Rise" (I love TWs version - where Dany and Ale find a way to incorporate 2 guitars and a bass with only 1 guitar and a bass) 2 versions: 1 In the cave and the other at Whisky a GoGo. Take you pick!
