Named for the Ottoman Admiral Piri Reis, 1513. Famous for his map, that appears to show Antarctica, not officially identified in the West until 1820. Reis is the Turkish equivalent of Admiral.

@@petrosros Reis means 'leader', 'chief' literally. But in the context of Ottoman navy, it was used to name the commanders of either a ship, or a small fleet of ships. The top commander of the whole Ottoman navy was called 'Kaptan-i Derya', meaning captain of the seas. Fox ex, the most famous Ottoman navy top commander was being called Hizir Reis (famous Barbarossa) before he was promoted to the top position of the navy. Once the top commander, he became 'Kaptan-i Derya'.

Nice video once again. Just quick correction for something minor I noticed, Safran TR40 is French engine which is being replaced with the domestic one designed and built by KaleKaip. It is KTJ-3XXX series. The latest I think is KTJ-3500. Reis is used the tile of the captain in old times (still used by fishermen). All famous Turkish admirals from Ottoman empire times had Reis in their name, and until now their names were given to Meko 200 frigates. Incidentally, Turkish president Erdogan is often called as Reis (in this case to reflect his position as a leader) by his supporters.

Piri Reis, the first submarine of the Reis class submarine project, entered the inventory today. Piri Reis was a famous geographer as well as an admiral. The others will enter the inventory one year apart (2025-2026-2027-2028-2029). Their names will be Piri Reis, Hızır Reis, Murat Reis, Aydın Reis, Seydiali Reis, Selman Reis. These names are famous admirals of the Ottomans (Anatolian Turks). Hızır Reis, known as Barbarossa in the world, is one of the greatest admirals of all time, perhaps the first, who destroyed the navy in Preveza, where all European powers united against the Turks. Reis class is actually the German TİP 214 submarine. But the Reis class submarines show big changes from their originals. It is 3 meter bigger. In this way, we solved the balance problems that existed in the original (Greek submarines). In addition, many subsystems of the submarines have been replaced with Turkish-made counterparts. They will use completely Turkish ammunition. "Atmaca" anti-ship missile equivalent to Harpoon, "AKYA" heavy torpedo, "Gezgin" cruise missile equivalent to Tomahawk. Turkey has several other indigenous submarine projects. The construction of the first "Milden" submarine, which is also an air-independent propulsion diesel submarine, will start in 2025. There will be 6 of them. They will start to enter the inventory from 2030. The Milden submarines will be Turkish designed and almost all systems will be Turkish built. Turkey has recently acquired the technology to produce submarine steel. In addition, a few different mini-submarine (STM-500) design studies are ongoing. As can be seen, Turkey has the production capability to take at least one submarine into inventory every year. In addition, a new shipyard command (Aksaz Shipyard Command) was opened today. Another one will be opened (Mersin Shipyard Command). Thus, the number of state shipyards focusing on the production of military ships and submarines will increase from 3 to 5. This number does not include private shipyards that can produce military ships. Parallel to the submarines, Turkey has many other surface ship projects underway (aircraft carriers, air defense destroyers, offshore patrol ships ...). With this new navy, the Turks will finally become a naval power worthy of their ancestors of the 16th century, throwing away the doctrine of a coastal navy against the Russians that NATO has assigned to them. For those who wonder what kind of power this was in the past, let me describe it. It was a power that allowed the French in the 1520s and the English in the 1580s to trade in the Mediterranean.

US Navy does not do littorals. Both our coasts and Gulf Of Mexico are deep water right off the coast. Turkey has Black Sea, Aegean, and Med to patrol. All three bodies of water are better suited for SSK instead of SSN's. US submarines have to range far from shores and face SSN and SSBN threats from Russian and Chinese fleets.

its a little more complicated than that.... If you use a specific I/Q pattern, i.e. a wider signal bandwidth, you can use a reverse lookup signal on the return signals to determine the range. But the ramp example is a good example for most people.

You should be a kid for asking a silly question like that! - First, they can build it a lot cheaper by themselves. - Second building ships, submarines involve dealing with and developing high tech stuff. All that help improve your industrial ecosystem, helping develop 10s, or even 100s of subcontracting firms. For ex, one of the hardest part of a submarine is the ability to build 'section-50' which is the head part of the sub which harbors torpedo launching platforms. By engaging in activities to build subs, Turkiye has gained the ability to built that part which can only be built by a handful countries in the world. Another critical threshold achieved was the ability to build 'HY-100' grade steel alloys which are needed to build subs. Again only a handful countries can build it. All these capabilities will make it far easier for Turkiye to build their own versions of subs, called MILDEN. Turkiye already started design phase of MILDENs which will be more capable that the REIS classs subs mentioned in this video. - Third, they can build as many as they want, and will not have to beg other countries if they will be willing to sell it to Turkiye.
