I have been making collages (as a hobby) since I was 15. I’m 31 now. When I was a teen, I’d walk to the Walgreens outside my neighborhood, stand in front of the magazine shelf and pick up 5 or 6 magazines at a time. Today, you can hardly find 5 (good) magazines at the store at all lol. Anyway, from experience, it’s not an art form everyone appreciates 😂😂 but I imagine the viewers of your channel will. You killed it. Great compositions.

I just love you! Your videos are amazing. I couldn’t agree more about how designers will work so hard on diy home projects and then when it comes to the art, it’s a snoozefest. For example, what I call “bewb” art. The ‘n’ or the ‘u’ shaped artwork and sculptures. Art cannot be an afterthought. Thank you for explanation and sharing that you do. I like it when you speed up your editing so we see the process but not in real time. I loved all three of your completed works and you turned me onto a new artist to follow @flanzella ‘s work was lovely. ✌🏼♥️😊

The art I have in my home is a mix of thrifted or bought from artists. I will often try to figure out how to make my own things if I really like something but can't afford it. At this point I can't buy any more prints, because I have no room left on my walls😅. It kills me because I'm always finding pieces I love - I spend way too much time at craft fairs, thrift stores and yard sales. Gotta run, saw a yard sale sign up the street! Great video as always!

What a nice problem to have! You could try putting things away for a few months and switching your art out every season or year. I find it keeps my brain from canceling out what I've been seeing and making it invisible. (I hope that makes sense.)

I come from an illustration background and this is something I'm still constantly thinking about. The art that works great for a book or game don't always look like the best art to live with on your walls. But then again...sometimes taking the elements from a different genre and turning them into fine art is exactly what you're aiming for. Also, if you stick too close to historical painting, it can look out of place in a home. For me personally, I grew up loving concept art for movies and video games, wildlife art, and certain painters from art history (like James John Audubon, Andrew Wyeth and Briton Riviere, ) and moody film stills of neighborhoods. So the challenge for me is figuring out the best way to combine these interests that is both enjoyable to create, efficient, and looks good to live with.
@REISSUED
@REISSUED Жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I’m talking about! Sometimes the artwork that is most interesting and that we have the greatest skill and enjoyment in creating is not the easiest to live with! But you are right that finding ways to combine these genres is super interesting! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I can sooooo relate to the "is this too simple, did I do enough?" block to listening to the inner true voice and not the critic voice. I feel you. "Finished is better than great" is my new mantra. So many people never get to the finish line. And who knows what "great" is anyway, am I right? Doing multiple pieces with the same materials has helped me...

Loved the collab, always so impressed to see the same genre of art done by different artists, you both did amazing work! Trying new things, especially when they’re scary, is the baseline of ALL of our energy and drive…the ebb and flow of being creative is so deeply dramatic. And the best art exudes those leaps and risks. Life blood and tears are sensed and the art comes to life because of it. Poetic, but I feel like it is so true, for me. It’s a beautiful sacrifice that you get to stand back, reminisce and re-live. Captivating.

I am an Artist working mostly in acrylics in a surrealist style with some still-life single or repeated images in a pop art vibe. I found your videos on KZbin and liked your use of found thrift store art that you layer found images over them adding elements of pencil and paint washes over sections. I found them inspiring. As I had not worked in college, it took me out of my comfort zone but felt exciting. So I started with a few of my paintings that did not come together how I wanted as a starting point and applied cutout images layering them in ways till something clicked. It was a lot of fun and gave me new ideas for works to come. Love your videos keep making them you inspire people. Thank you.

Andrew this was a really inspired collaboration with Leah ( I follow both your channels) you both created some amazing artworks. I love that you worked in a series (I often do this too) your final three piece really work as a tryptich and te muted colours really worked to bring a unity to all three pieces,and then going in with ainting as well really completed each piece and again added to the unity and elevated all three collages to another level visually. I love that the final pieces are both graphic and painterly,that these two elemnts blended so well in all three pieces. The scale of hem also really works as well. I love surrealism,as its timeless and retro at the same time. I find it strange that covering te eyes in a piece divides opinions so much, but I cover the eyes in my wn digital collage art too,it adds an air of mystery and changes hw people ngage with a finished piece. It sounds like this collaboration pushed both you and Leah out of your creative comfort zones,but resulted in amazing pieces of finished artworks by both of you. (matt) P.s Leah in April began releasing a list of prompts for each month,mabye check them out and see if they inspire you. Thrift stores can really be treasure houses! for artists Collage is like a form of re-visioning which I love. (in the UK we called them second hand stores)

I wouldn’t say that I’m into design friendly art, tho you’ve given food for thought. I tend to buy things that I love, I’m drawn to pen and ink, textile art, vintage advertising, funky one offs. I’m not sure I have a cohesive overall look, it’s more is more. I do thrift a lot of my frames because of cost. If I do a gallery wall I tend to mix either similar themes like trees or black and white drawings with pops of colors thrown in. I doubt it reflects any style but it feels right to me. I love the collage work!

Andrew, you and Leah might consider finding a third collage artist and create an "Exquisite Corpse" art piece.(or three) Do you not use an Exacto or Excel knife instead of a utility knife when cutting paper for collage? I use an Excel swivel knife when cutting lacquer stencils for silkscreen work and find it amazingly fluid. I also love the torn edge when piecing together images as partial backdrops for paintings. While old magazine images are great resources for collage, I generally use photos I've taken and generously manipulate them digitally prior to printing and cutting/tearing. Since I use mucho graphite on my paintings, I usually seal everything with a coat of Kamar varnish. (aerosol). Just some thoughts. I enjoy the diversity of your project vlogs. Cheers Andrew.

First off, your kitchen is so great, but every room you’ve finished shows your creative mind at work. I am very simpatico with your style and every room in my own home is collected which really makes it a home. I have been interested in Interior design since the age of 12 . I have files of pages that I have torn from magazines of interior design mags as well as what you were working with in this video. I have a small trunk full of scraps and pages for future collages. I love laying them out but when it comes to gluing them, not my favorite part of the process. I generally use glue stick which sometimes doesn’t work as the images sometimes bubble up in places. Do you have a suggestion on what you might use to adhere these scraps and cut outs to your mat or boards. I’ve loved collages for years and have lost some fine ones stored in a leaky garage. Anyway, I really enjoy your channel and watching how things progress within your home. Keep doing what you’re doing 😊..
