From 43:20 onwards Mighty Finland lads talk about how the military service works in Finland: kzbin.info/www/bejne/baCvXpWgo8h3pbM NOTE: All my photos etc from military exercises are from The National Defence Training Association of Finland (MPK) trainings - I will NEVER post anything from my actual "refresher" exercises. I will never share my rank, training background or war time role. About MPK: The aim of military training is to support The Defence Forces by offering training that maintains and develops the skills of the reservists. The courses supplement the training provided by the armed forces, focusing on local defence task training. The training is directed and supported by the Defence Forces and includes e.g. basic training, specialized training and leadership courses. The training is taken into account in reserve promotions. mpk.fi/en/

The next video will likely be about new M05 clothing, but can't say yet if I do more on this. Perhaps!

Great video, it would be interesting to see more of your military training gear. But yeah, I too hope you will never have to use it.

Thanks. Next up I'll probably talk about the brand new 5.11 Tactical Finland M05 clothing.

Returning to this video a bit late, but for any cheapskate reservists (like myself), you can make the thigh panel into a very effective micro chest rig by attaching a loose strap (mosaremmi) to the middle top PALS loop. The pockets you can attach are: One double magazine pouch GP pouch Mini-pouch or grenade pouch (to the side, not the front, of the GP pouch) Dump pouch (support arm side, loop it through the mag pouch and thigh panel PALS for better retention, pouch is tied to the "thigh" strap) You also have an extra row of PALS on the bottom that you can lash a raincoat to or hang a dangler/hanger pouch from. Requires some fiddling, but light and basically free. Not personally sure if it's Major-proof, but next time I'm going, I can find out.

Great breakdown on your gear. That LW vest sounds nice and breathable, might work for an over heating guy like me lol.Keep up the good training. Better to practice and never need it than to need it and have practiced. Nate

It's as lightweight as it gets as there's no extra fabric at all, just the molle weave straps.

Would be really interesting and entertaining to see a practical comparison between the worst-case mobilization kit (eg. some mishmash of m62, m85 and m91 gear + rubber boots) and what a reservist might reasonably buy for themselves. How much does the old heavy cotton & leather kit actually suck compared to modern materials? I bet a lot of people would be shocked to be issued cold war vintage gear if the balloon went up.

It's definitely an advantage having gone through the service with older gear, makes you appreciate the newer stuff more. Kids these days don't know how good they got it!

Have you considered adding a dangler to the rig? Looks pretty doable. Small rectangle of cordura or something with velcro on it, then sew the rectangle onto the rig. Then you could attach danglers. You'd just need to be mindful not to mess with the PALS attachment. Great vid. 👍
@TaivalOutdoors2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question, but no I haven't. I agree, it's doable if I feel like I'd need the extra capacity.

Nice to get new content! Commenting in Anglo for international audience: It's wild how much better today's gear is, compared to the cotton canvas and leather stuff we used to have. Sorry to say but I think the lightweight chest rig was discontinued. Also, for a 120 cm chest it was too small anyway... Totally right about the saw! It's hands down the best piece of kit for light stuff. Goes through roots better than an entrenching tool; cuts cleaner and weighs less than an axe; waaay faster than even big knives. Vegvisir may be going out of business. Stock seems low and there was no reply to my email(s). Too bad. --- Jos ikinä harkitset uutta suuntaa kanavalle, niin sotilaspuolelle on varmasti kiinnostuneita katsojia. Just sayin'.

I have ~115 chest and for me there's plenty of extra straps to go, so this would fit even a bigger fellow. Although I compared this with my friend's rig during this past exercise and he had practically no extra strap behind his back. So maybe they changed the design at some point. PS. I used M85 during my conscript service, so yeah...😂
@trikyy72382 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly, the rig was both too short and too tight right under my pecs to sit comfortably. I didn't feel like modding it because I had other options. M/60 enjoyer here...
@TaivalOutdoors2 ай бұрын
@@trikyy7238 I like to keep mine quite high and tight. I always say that it is supposed to be a chest rig, not a belly rig. What I'm definitely missing though is some elasticity on the strap that goes horizontally behind my back. If it is tight when standing, it's too tight when moving, and vice versa.

I really like your setup, very interesting video although I do have a question. What goes into your gp pouch ?

Thanks. GP pouch has all sorts of smaller stuff like camo paint, steel wire, hearing protection, compass, etc.

Is sarma tst gear in fairly common use with finnish servicemen? I'm curious cause issued stuff seems to be unobtainium
@TaivalOutdoorsАй бұрын
I'd say Särmä TST is quite common for those reservists who train actively. During conscript service time, not so much.

I know the Finnish military has the RK 95s / RK 62s, but do you think since Finland has joined the NATO family, will you will be standardizing with other countries for weapons? Also, that's a lot of velcro. :)
@TaivalOutdoors2 ай бұрын
I believe there's some sort of a new rifle project underway. Could be that we downgrade to 556. Yeah I could block the velcro on VV lite and folding saw pouches, as those have a secondary retaining mechanism as well. Mag/IFAK/TQ pouches don't need to be opened in situations where you need to be quiet 😬

Does this mean Reservists must buy their own gear? Or you are just at liberty to use what you want?
@trikyy72382 ай бұрын
For voluntary training, you bring your own kit, so you bring what you like (M05 compatibility is of course the norm). For official military exercises, kit will be provided by the army, and any items you bring MUST be compatible and approved ("major safe). Only for visible items though, so own underwear, socks, mid layer and also footwear are o.k.
@TaivalOutdoors2 ай бұрын
The other commenter pretty much nailed it, but to clarify, you NEVER need to buy your own kit. You can buy stuff, and it depends on your unit how much of it is tolerated (assuming of course that everything is M05 Milspec).
