I think it depends on what you mean by weak. Does opening up to friends about mental health problems for example classify as weak? Because i think it's always good to talk about your problems. That doesn't mean that you can just sit around and do nothing to fix your problems of course, but i think that it's good to be able to talk about it to people. I have talked to people about my problems in the past and sometimes they gave really good advice which led me to fix myself.

There's a difference between being ''weak'' and being ''vulnerable''. It's ok to fail, lose a battle, get your ass kicked; that's part of the process of learning. However, it becomes a flaw of character if you decide that this is your new status quo and that you won't bother try to better yourself up and that you'll be happy that way. You are lying to yourself, you are chosing the path of the coward but don't want to people to call you out on it.

It's okay to cry whenever you need to. Talk it out when you need to. Seek help, whatever you need to do. What was that old quote? “I’ll rest when I’m dead” or something like that?
@uknownothing51282 жыл бұрын
"Weakness is a great thing, and strength is nothing. When a man is just born, he is weak and flexible. When he dies, he is hard and insensitive. When a tree is growing, it's tender and pliant. But when it's dry and hard, it dies. Hardness and strength are death's companions. Pliancy and weakness are expressions of the freshness of being. Because what has hardened will never win." Andrei Tarkovsky
@DoktrDub2 жыл бұрын
@@uknownothing5128 Except those examples of trees in that quote are nothing comparable to humanity and the spirit of man, weakness gives incentive to grow, weakness is not synonymous with greatness in relation to man, and humanity without strength would mean the end of our kind, simple fact... the reason weakness and flexibility is important is because it drives us to mould ourselves into something more, so that we can thrive as a species. You can’t take quotes for gospel in all situations, as in hard and dry wood can be turned into a bridge to a greater land, a foundation to something amazing. “what has hardened will never win” implies that any inexperienced or unweathered individual can defeat the hardened due to being more mentally pliable? or that the veterans can not learn anything new, only the inexperienced, you can’t just apply a contradictory Tarkovsky quote in the hope that it will cancel out OPS’s comment, but then again I suppose your comment did get me talking so it did it’s job
@uknownothing51282 жыл бұрын
@@DoktrDub Thanks for the thoughtful response! You're right, I put the quote there just to oppose OP's and I also agree we shouldn't use them as gospel and without further context. That being said, what all these sorts of videos portray as "strong" and "masculine" tend to be purely physical acts, often violent in nature, whereas emotional attributes like being affectionate towards others or showing vulnerability are completly disregarded or often even deemed weak. What does make a man strong? The ability to deadlift and knock someone out? To be stern and try to block any emotional reaction that isn't considered masculine? It purporsefully seperates peoples from each other by labeling them as "strong" or "weak", putting the "strong" on a pedestal, petting each others backs while laughing at those they consider weak like this video does. Is this the amazing portrayal of a strong minded person? Someone who alienates rather unifies? And why is someone feminine considered weak in the first place? Haven't we moved on from this by now? These videos always tend to attract the same sort of people. People that have been hurt or feel alienated and victimized by society but instead of using this feeling for the greater good, they keep the wheel spinning and do the same to someone else. They simply mask their fragility with these made up connotations of what they should be and pretend everything is fine. They figured out the right problem but drew an unhealthy conclusion. Those memes only present a type of masculinity whose attributes are common in the modern west and do not represent the history of men in other cultures.
