A discussion about Firaq Gorakhpuri between Prof Shamim Hanfi and Zamarrud Mughal at Rekhta Studio

Firaq Gorakhpuri was a writer, critic and according to one commentator one of the most noted contemporary Urdu poet from India. It was there that he wrote most of his Urdu poetry including Gul-e-Naghma which earned hik the highest literary award of India, the Jnanpith Award.

Shamim Hanafi has done a great job when he highlighted Firaq's contributions to the Urdu poetry.To me Firaq is the greatest ghzal-go shayar after Mir and Ghalib. I along with Janusz Krzyzowski have translated Firaq's 40 ghazals into Polish way back in 2007. I had the privilege to act as Firaq's interpreter from Urdu into Russian when he got Soviet Land prize in 1967. At that time he was talking to Uzbeki poetess Madam Zulfia. and poet Torup Tulla. Shamsur Rehman Faarooqi sahab poetry ko sicence ki tarah treat karte hain...unhone padha to bahut hai lekin seekh kuch nahin hai..Hanfi sahab ki zahanat saaf jhalakti hai...Faarooqi sahab ke yahan sirf kitaabein bolti hain
