Dwain I love your fly in videos man!! I could look at airplanes and watch the take offs and landings all day. I've been that way since I was a kid! Still am...a 52 year old kid... Man! Glad that wasn't a wooden prop! He was right there at you. Glad you, he, and the plane are ok. Thank you so much for sharing!

Great video. You definitely captured the "spirit" of Reklaw! Very unique event to say the least. The PC-12 coming in was surprising and awesome.

A great man once said, "REKLAW is not a place for pudknockers of low ability!" At 16:15 the pilot was either trying to fly the tail, or more likely running up the engine head down. Either way, the stick was forward until the prop hit the ground. It is extremely rare to nearly impossible to have both, independent brake systems lock up at the same time. Notice the airplane is still rolling when the prop hits the ground.

I agree with you, for the most part, look, I have been an A&P for over 40 years and the only time I have ever seen both brakes locked up is when an aircraft owner pressurized his brakes while adding brake fluid from below using a pressure vessel. I do know this, when the dust settled after this accident, both brakes were holding tight and the smell of burning brakes was in the air. The brake lines were opened to relieve the pressure so they could move the aircraft out of the taxi-way. I am not sure if this aircraft had parking brakes but I suspect that if it did, then the problem most likely is solved. I am reluctant to offer an opinion because I am not the mechanic charged with troubleshooting the brake system and I do not want to be seen as someone pointing fingers at the poor guy. You can bet that if he screwed the pooch, well, he darn well knows it and is kicking himself in the ass for it. This is a very expensive lesson he is learning in regard to repair costs and public embarrassment. 🙂

@@19Cub It's going well thanks. Picking away at the Aeronca and stockpiling firewood, heavy frosts here and new snow on hills, it's going to be a cold winter. I have the rib jig set up for the Sky Scout and will try and get the ribs built this winter, good cold weather activity. Hope things are going well down south.

Great film quality! And while music in the background of videos can be good, I do appreciate being able to just hear the raw sound of the airplanes in this video.

Looked to me like the guy was trying to taxi tail up. Watch the elevator. He doesn't give it any back pressure until the prop strikes the ground. I don't know though, as I guess the brakes locked up about the time the prop struck. That's a very expensive lesson the learn.
@19Cub4 жыл бұрын
Hi Scotabot, it was a gut-check for sure. I felt really bad for the pilot.

Great to see a Legal Eagle in there with it's bigger and badder brethren. Sad about the brake lockup at the end, but this may have been FAR worse on landing. Thanks Dwain.
