Can someone please help 🙃 I have the DDJ-FLX4, I have ‘Keyboard’ written under the ‘Hot Cue’ button, yet when I hold shift and press that button, nothing happens. It flashes to let me know it’s selected the shift function for the button, yet it doesn’t work and nothing comes up in the boxes in Rekordbox on my screen (it still displays Hot Cues). Is this only a function for Serato users or something?

Hello, I tried to follow the tutorial with my ddj400 but I face the following problem: On the tutorial I see that while you press the button, the music goes, but when you stop pressing it, music stops too. In my case once I press, the music continues, it does not have the behavior like the cue button, what could be the reason ? Thanks!

If you have the song playing when you choose the key it will continue playing from the cue point in that key. If you have the track paused it will function as a cure button in the respective key. You can think of it as just a regular hot cue the changes the note when pressed.

Another home that I just figured out is that you can flip through the keyboard pages by using the shift + pads 7 & 8 on the deck you're using keyboard mode on. In the video he has dedicated buttons for it but on the 400 it's kinda hidden. If you need shift and any of the other pads it will delete that cue point though.

@@RobertD_83 thanks for your replies bro! At then it came out that the problem was with my rekordbox config , I had to put it in vinyl mode and change couple settings , now it works the way it works in the video!

I can't find a way to do it on my controller. You can do it directly in the software. See the 2 little arrows under the +3 in rekordbox? Those will take you to the extra pages.

This is a good tutorial. I mess with keyboard for fun on occasion. But if I were to use it more I would invest in an XP1 to eliminate the need for page scrolling.

What you're calling 1 step is called a half step in music theory, and what you're calling 2 steps is called a whole step. It could be confusing for newbies to music theory is all I'm saying, with you using your own labels for those things vs using the common knowledge labels for them. For example if one of these newbies is taking fundamentals of music class and being taught what a whole step is, and what 2 whole steps are, and 3 whole steps, etc., and what a half step is, and your calling a whole step 2 steps, they might think you're saying 2 whole steps (when you're in fact only meaning one whole step).

7:28 … didn’t you play ‘Mixolydian’ when descending, instead of ‘natural minor’ like you did when you were ascending prior to that? Or do the pads in this mode work like some weird ‘mirror image’ (either side of the root note) fudge for DJs … ?! 🤔🙃

Hi Jamie, One cool trick could also be to use as the root note the cue point from where you want to start the playback. Then when you want to finish the toneplay and start playback you just press the root note pad and while pressing it press play, track will continue to run

Thanks for the video. But I want everyone to understand that the rules you said about which pad to use in what scale, ONLY APPLIES IF THE NOTE YOU CUED IS ACTUALLY THE ROOT NOTE! This basically means you gotta do this by ears. Period. ;-)

The 'single note' hot cue should be the root note, right? So if Track B (the track you want to transition to) is in Em, the single note of Track A should be an E, so that you can play the E Minor scale with keyboard mode. If the single note of Track A was a G and you would play the Minor scale, it would clash, right?

When I press shift hot cue on ddj 400, and press the pad for a keyboard sound,it just shift's the key of the track and keeps playing, rather than an individual note. Tried toggling that gate playback feature under preferences. Any help would be appreciated?

Bro u dont have to load the notes, the song will automatically break into notes. You just have to press the button.

You’d need to cue up a piano note in a song (a nice, clear example of one), if you wanted this keyboard to sound/play anything like a piano … or perhaps there’s a other way of selecting a sound/samole to use as the ‘keyboard sound reference’ (dom’t know yet; I’m a noob myself).

Make sure "Quantize" is off, then you can set your cue points/hot cues everywhere you like and they don't snap to the beat grid.
